hi alicia, the clicking noise after you push the horn is a solenoide engaging which means this part of the circuit is ok.... you say you tried 12v directly to the horn and sounded like it tried to work once but still didn't honk. that tells me the problem, is with the horn. some horns in older cars have an adjusting screw, some-where on the side . if yours doesn't have one then apart from pulling the horn apart (if its screwed together as a lot of older ones are) buy a second hand horn....(note i have had this problem in the past and adjusting the screw in or out has fixed it .... there was a lock nut on the screw as well) hope this helps.... pete...
You may have a short to ground from your battery. I had a battery fall out of the holder and the positive post grounded out and caused the horn to blow. I though it was haunted until I discovered the problem. It had back fed positive voltage thru the ground to the horn.
it's sounds that the horn is bad to check to see if horn is bad is to a get voltage meter then take the wire off horn then put red lead in the plug then to body of car then go push the horn , make should put meter where you can se it. If you don't have a meter you can take a wire from the horn where you pulled off the plug if horn don't sound it's the horn
The clicking sound you are hearing is the horn relay engaging trying to supply power to your horn. Most likely horn itself needs to be replaced. Locate horn underneath in front near grill. With test light check for ground & with someone pushing on horn switch, check for positive. If you have good ground & power when pushing on horn switch need to replace horn.
Often the horn is a shared fuse with the car radio or interior light. worth a look, also the horn may be dirty inside and therefore wont sound, a good tap with a hammer might free it up again.
put a switch under dash for horn. run a wire from horn to right side of switch, oyher side run a wire to battery or a good 12v source. now horn should work by a push button.
Depending upon the year model alot of the later model ones are under the hood in the black electrical box .. under the lid will tell you which relay is it.. let me know thanks Jerry
