Hi

The crankshaft works directly with the engine pistons and converts the piston motion into rotation. If you are going to remove the crankshaft from the engine, you must first remove the engine from the car which requires special equipment, procedures and expertise. Consult with your mechanic before proceeding with this operation.

Remove the following parts from the engine: The flywheel or drive plate, the crankshaft pulley, the timing chain, the oil pan, the oil pump body, the oil filter and the piston/connecting rod assemblies.

Mount a dial indicator on the crankshaft, placing the indicator in line with the crankshaft and touching the end of it. This is needed to measure the endplay.

Pry the crankshaft all the way to the rear and turn the dial indicator to zero, then pry the crankshaft as far as you can to the front and measure the distance traveled to get the endplay. The endplay needs to be between .003 and .01 inch.

Loosen the main bearing cap bolts with a wrench, turning them each a quarter turn at a time. Loosen them until you can remove them by hand.

Tap the main bearing cap assembly gently with a soft-face hammer and pull the cap up and off the cylinder block. If the bearing inserts come out with the assembly, try not to drop them.

Lift the crankshaft out of the engine. This often takes two people because the crankshaft is heavy and difficult to handle.

Landcruiser will not start. horn blows when I tried to boost the battery

the alarm is failing
the dash lamps tell you what is going on, read them.
no year LC state
nor series,
nor country
nor optoins.
the alarm must be fixed. first.
then look for IMMO activation, Immobilizer lamp on.
the IMMO option does kill the engine.

NO YEAR NO JOY,
why make a post with no YEAR. 1951?
if alarm is fixed and IMMO working, then we need what engine is in this
car. just the 70 series has...

no engine?, no joy either. sorry.

Glow plug light only stays on for a short time and hard to start in mornings 1996 toyota land cruiser prada

what country.? makers do use diffr. engines in diffr. countries.
what engine,(that be first on the list, to start)?
70 or 80 series LC>? just a hint.
the wiki list:
Diesel:
2.4 L 2L diesel I4
3.4 L PZ diesel I5
4.0 L 2H diesel I6
4.2 L 1HZ diesel I6
Turbodiesel:
2.4 L 2L-T turbodiesel I4
2.5 L VM HR588 TD I5 (Italy)[15]
3.0 L 1KZ-T turbodiesel I4
3.4 L 13B-T turbodiesel I4
4.2 L 1HD turbodiesel I6
4.5 L 1VD turbodiesel V8

which one.?
then learn the injector and glow plug controls. (books)

the "basics of Diesel)

1 bad glow plugs? (lots of ways)(or power or controls)
2 weak compression (a cold engine need max here)
3 or bad fuel injection. (or no air supply, clogge air filter, or?)

to solve problems you can do simple tests.
it's all in the manuals.
if you learn what engine you have, you can get all that facts
you need by googling just that.
who knows, it might save you $15 buying a book.

I am a backpacker and need to change a diesel fuel pump in a 1985 toyota hi ace. any tips on how to go about this? i am reasonably good with motorbike engines but never tackled anything like this. many...

http://www.onlinefreeebooks.net/autos/car/toyota-l-2l-2l-t-engine-repair-manual-pdf.html I've not had to change one on a Toyota but they are in the tank. The link has some free manuals. Some cars and trucks require you to take the tank out first. The job is not too hard provided you are able to safely raise the truck and drain out some of the fuel to lighten the tank.

Looking for cam timing mark on diesel 2l motor?

If you don't know what your cam timing mark is and the cam belt is off, make sure that the crankshaft is on Top Dead Centre (TDC). Turn it clockwise using the pully bolt until the timing marks lign up. If you feel any resistance, go back a little and move the cam shaft about 45 degrees as the piston is making contact with a valve. Carry on with the crankshaft until it is right. Take the rocker cover off and turn the camshaft until the inlet and exhaust valves on the rear cylinder are both opening an equal amount. You will see the camshaft lobes pushing them open. If you feel too much resistance move the crankshaft around a little to let the valves clear the pistons, then move the crankshaft back. If you look at the front cylinder, you will see that both valves are fully closed. This is TDC. See if you can find a mark and what it is lining up with. When you have reassembled everything, using a spanner on the crankshaft nut, turn the engine over clockwise for two full revolutions and if it turns without locking up (pistons touching valves) and all the timing marks still line up you can start it up. If your pump timing is still correct, you should be done. Don't run the engine with the rocker cover off or you will get oil everywhere.
