Weber carburetor problems


There could be many reasons for your problem but most likely the pilot jet is clogged, there is no voltage on the idle solenoid switch or the solenoid is short or defective.
To solve the problem please do the following:
- Firstly disconnect the solenoid connector, switch on the ignition and measure the harness side voltage with digital multimeter. It should read 11.5 - 12.5 volts. If there is no voltage, check the fuse and wiring.
- If it is found OK, remove the air filter box, remove the carburetor, remove the carburetor top by unscrewing the top Philips type screws.
- Look into the main carburetor body from top, there you would find a brass screw in one of the holes, this is the pilot jet.
- Unscrew the jet with flat type screw driver. Look through it. If you cannot see light through it, it is clogged. Clean it with compressed air.
- Clean up the hole in top plate, clean the whole carburetor and put every thing back nicely.
- Warm up the engine and adjust the idle air mixture and idle speed.

How to adjust idle


You have an idle control solenoid that the computer uses to control idle speed. You need a multi meter hooked to the 2 wires on the controlm solenoid. Find the screw on the side of the solenoid valve and screw it in all the way. Back it out until the meter rears 480ma +/- 5 ma. This should set the idle to proper speed.

Idles up and down and hesitates under a load


Without a steady idle rate, its bound to act up when there s load on it cos with the fluctuation the idle might be too low at some point. Things to look at will be the idle control solenoid, throttle body, MAF sensor, check if carbon tracked then clean out throttle body with carbeurator cleaner.

Not caused by alternator. check the idle air control motor operation (take it off and see if it moves when the key is turned on. also clean out the air passages while you have the motor out) and clean the throttle body with carb cleaner. I have pasted some info on the EVAP purge valve--it may be operating normally. Is your engine light on? If yes, can you get a free scan at your local parts chain and send us the trouble codes?

  1. The IAC motor is located on the throttle body.
  2. Remove air duct and air resonator box at throttle body.

Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid
Description & Operation
The duty cycle EVAP canister purge solenoid (DCP) regulates the rate of vapor flow from the EVAP canister to the intake manifold. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) operates the solenoid.
During the cold start warm-up period and the hot start time delay, the PCM does not energize the solenoid. When de-energized, no vapors are purged. The PCM de-energizes the solenoid during open loop operation.
The engine enters closed loop operation after it reaches a specified temperature and the time delay ends. During closed loop operation, the PCM cycles (energizes and de-energizes) the solenoid 5 or 10 times per second, depending upon operating conditions. The PCM varies the vapor flow rate by changing solenoid pulse width. Pulse width is the amount of time that the solenoid is energized. The PCM adjusts solenoid pulse width based on engine operating condition.

I have a 91 cutlass cierra and sometimes it idles fast and then cuts out on me, even tries to cut out while going down the highway. Sometimes I have to have my foot on the brake and accelerator so it...


Have a look for broken vacumn lines ..this causes air to bypass the idle air control solenoid/motor..and this will also cause the exact symptoms you are concerned about..also the pcv valve stuck open will do this as well..start the car if it will stay running long enough and look under the hood and listen for the vacumn leak some times you can hear it and you can locate it this way as well..good luck

1986 truck will not idle until warm has a carb


Look on the side of the carb.There should be a couple of solenoids mounted.one of them is not working.Check for a blown fuse,and also take the solenoids out and clean,and reinstall.If this does not work,then find out which one is not working,and replace it.

Nissan Quest 2001 turns off when idle


Idle air control at base of throttle body. Passages could be plugged or idle hard stop needs adjusting.

Air Intake System Sensors Air intake system sensors include a heated resistor-type mass air flow (MAF) sensor and throttle position (TP) sensor; both supply data to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM also monitors engine speed.
Air Intake System Control Devices The idle air control (IAC) solenoid regulates idle speed by adjusting the amount of air allowed into the intake manifold. Adjustment is made by varying the duty cycle output by the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM will increase the duty cycle for added mechanical or electrical loads. The IAC solenoid is combined with the fast idle control (FIC) solenoid which is turned on when the air conditioner is engaged to help compensate for the additional load. The IAC valve must be replaced as an assembly with the FIC solenoid.
Fast Idle Control (FIC) Solenoid The fast idle control (FIC) solenoid (Figure 1) compensates for idle speed change caused by the operation of the air conditioner compressor. The FIC solenoid is controlled by the FIC relay. The FIC relay is energized when the air conditioner clutch is energized and the relay allows the FIC solenoid to turn on and let an additional volume of air into the intake manifold.

Throttle Body (TB) The throttle body (TB) controls the amount of air that flows into the engine through a single butterfly valve. The single butterfly valve opening is determined by the accelerator pedal. The TB is cast with an air bypass channel and houses several emission-related components for the powertrain control module (PCM).

Throttle Position Sensor (TP Sensor) The throttle position (TP) sensor responds to the accelerator pedal movement. The TP sensor is a potentiometer that transforms the throttle plate opening angle into output voltage and sends the voltage signal to the powertrain control module (PCM). In addition, the sensor detects the opening and closing speed of the throttle plate and sends the voltage signal to the PCM. Also, the TP sensor is used to determine the air intake when the mass air flow (MAF) sensor fails. This mode of operation is called Fail Safe.
The TP sensor integrates the idle (IDL) switch within the housing. The IDL switch detects when the throttle plate is closed and an idle condition occurs. The PCM is supplied with this input signal.
