It had a tuneup when the problem started 3 months ago took it back to the mechanic to recheck error codes and he said it was from oil on the spark plug wire cyl 3 when it received an additional error cyl 2 he had no answer but new wires no help , it had new plugs with initial tuneup That is when I took over trying to fix it myself ( I am going thru roccuring leukemia and was at 1 of my weak states when the problem started 2wks I go back for treatments trying to get this fixed 1st ) rechecked plugs wires look new and in good shape I use OBD II to check store and reset error codes as well as monitor functions

Replace the MAF (mass air flow sensor). This your most likely cause. Let me know what you find and I will be happy to help further.

Try unplugging the MAF and see how it runs. It wont accelerate properly when the MAF is unplugged. If it runs smooth, this will be the issue. I would try locating a used one.

Did you do the basics? replace plugs, test fuel injector output? tune up? most of the time when we see miss fire codes a basic tune up takes care of the problem. check these items and check the compression and get back with me and we will see if we can get to the bottom of this problem.

did you say oil on #3 spark plug? you need to check compression sounds like you have an internal engine problem.

outside is much better then inside, i think you need to test the crank shaft sensor, if the sensor is getting weak it could cause the miss fire, and it would move around as will be more of a random missfire the best way to test one is with a lab scope but they are not that expencive it is located at the front of the engine on the oil pump housing.

Try pouring a full can of seafoam into the gas tank with a full tank. That should clean out all the carbon and build up on the valves while lubricating at the same time. You can also use deep creep ( aerosol seafoam ) and spray into your throttle body or into a vacuum line going into the intake manifold. After all this, the engine should run smoothly, if not i would get a tune up to be sure everything's good.

Both products can be bought at any auto part store. They will definitely clean out any build up.

2004 grand cherokee 4.0l one day it will run fine the next day it runs rough rich and when i step on the gas the engine cuts out and spits and sputters

When the "spits and sputters" happen are you in low rpm? Can you "by-pass" the sputtering by accelerating? Has your gas mileage suffered?

Is the check engine light on? If so check what codes are stored. It sounds like the m a p sensor.

1992 dodge dakota starting problem

The first thing you need is to have the unit scanned. Check things like the baro sensor, map sensor, coolant temp. and the TP sensor. Also check your fuel pressure, volume and injector spray pattern. I think you will have found your problem, but if not hit me back with engine size and any codes,Good Luck.
