Question about GMC Sierra 1500

1 Answer

Hi. I am looking for some help. the fuel pump is running good it hasnt been two years since this truck started. it ran good before the time of when we did not use it. me and my buddy were starting to look at it and when we turned it over it would run for about 2 sec unitll it would quit like there wasnt' enough fuel getting to the engine. cleaning the old fuel out of the tank now any suyggestions on why the truck would be doing that? some people have suggested fuel filter and fuel regulater? I have disregarded the ideas of a fuel pump for it is working good and how it should be.

If it didn't run for very long, fuel would need to be replaced first.

The fuel was a dark yellow with some sediment in it. Any solutions to easily get the gas tank out to drain it? Or is there a way to **** out the gas?

not really, best to remove tank if alot of trash. typical tank has 1 to 1.5 gallons you can't get out by sucking or pumping. other way is to just unhook line and let it flow as much as possible, then fill up with fresh gas.

Fuel is probably stale. Pump or pump relay might be stuck.

I suggest you check the fuel delivery to the fuel rail. If no delivery the pump isn't working and the supply should be checked and then take the appropriate action depending whether the supply is good or not.

Will turn over but wont start cant hear the fuel pump

If it hasn't run in a couple years, I would use a "test light" and check for power at the plug-in for the fuel pump. If ther's no power I would run a wire from the battery straight to the fuel pump itself. If the pump doesn't turn on you will have to replace the pump. If this starts it. If this makes it work you could put a fuse in the wire and hook it under the hood to any wire that has power when you turn on the key.

If you are trying to get it running again after 2 years it might be a good idea to pick up a Haynes manual for the car. They're only about $20 and have a lot of useful help for the DIYer doing average repairs. Hope this helps.

1989 Bronco fullsize has sat for the past 6 years and wont start, will turn over, has new gas with fuel stabilizer, still no firing. Replacing spark plugs and the fuel pump are the next two steps. ...

Assuming she ran good before she sat, replacing the plugs, cap and rotor isn't a bad idea.Step 1: Make sure you have good spark. No need to worry about timing right now. Step 2: If you have spark, then we have to see if its getting gas. There are two fuel pumps on this Bronco. One in tank and one on the frame rail. Can you hear either one running? The in tank one should come on for a few minutes and shut off. The front one is harder to hear.If you hear it, borrow or rent a FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE and check your fuel pressure. There is a fitting similar to a tire valve on fuel rail. Pressure should remain constant. If either pump fails you will not get adequate fuel flow. The front pump is easy to get to for trouble-shooting. Don't buy anything unless your sure you will need it. Hope this helps.

91 acclaim v6. starts and runs good, but once its been running for awhile (hour or so), and i turn it off, it doesnt want to start back up, or does and dies. wait 2 hours and it starts right up. recently...

Sounds like either you have a clogged fuel line and or clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump is failing. What happens when the vehicle runs the fuel pump heats up, as it heats up it produces less and less fuel for your car. Eventually ti stops working until its cool again on faulty pumps. Given the age of your vehicle I would say you need to replace both pump and filter.

Ran out of gas ,now drives rough 1990 150

Hi there it is most likely dirt in the fuel filter, when you run out of gas you bring up all the crud from the bottom of the tank and if your lucky enough that it hasnt ruined your fuel pump it should be just the fuel filter needs the dirt blown out of it a really easy job to do good luck

I ran out of gas and now it wont start

Somtimes when you run our of gas it sucks up all the grit/particles in the bottom of the tank which may have clogged the the pump filter, the pump itself or the fuel filter (in the engine bay) or the line. It could be the fact that its the forth time you've run our of gas may have semi blocked it and its had to work overtime to produce the desired fuel pressure(like you say may have burnt it out).Get someone to turn the key to the on position(dash lights come on) while you squeeze the fuel hose coming off the fuel rail, if you can feel it expand the fuel pump is ok, if you dont it needs attention. I would replace the fuel filter while your at as im sure there'd be a fair amount of dirt/debris in there.
