Battery light/ everything needed to tune up a 99 chevy silverado 1500 v6

The cluster problem could be a bad connection for the harness plug at the back of the cluster. The alternator gets the signal to charge from the warning light, so if there is no power to the cluster the alternator would not charge.
Depending on the mileage, you would replace the plugs, cap and rotor, wires, fuel and air filters, and spark plugs. The filters and plugs at 50,000 miles, and the rest at 75,000 miles or as needed.
The trans fluid and filter should be changed at 100k or less if it is an automatic. Same goes for the coolant, belt, and radiator hoses.

Changed motor car wont charge found 4 broken wires in harness 2 in ground repared them still wont charge was told pcm needs to be replaced and programmed. what about pigtail on alternator being bad

Yes, repair the alternator wire. The pcm does not control alternator output, it only uses and monitors it. I don't know if it is a problem, but maybe from the bad wiring you found may have affected it. Don't know who told you to replace the pcm, but think I'd get a second...well, a third opinion.
Sorry I can't help you more, good luck.

Battery not charging on its own...

If you wired the new regulator in with the old one, you've probably burned up the new regulator. Make sure that you have voltage to the correct pin on the regulator and make sure that you have voltage coming from the sensing wire from the alternator to the regulator. You must remove the old regulator completely.

My 1996 Nissan Maxima's Alternator

Just because they're new doesn't mean that they work. I would find an auto parts store that does free electrical system checks before spending a dime elsewhere. I've gone through 4 batteries in 3 years because of bad products. And have most recently had to replace a brand new alternator because it, too, was defective.

I have a 1993 ford ranger stand.cab w/2.3l 5spd std.charging system will not charge.I've changed battery, altonator, belt, checked all the wiring in the engine compartment everything checks out fine.still...

Hi Closet, I think the problem will be with the voltage regulator or a defective alternator. I believe it will be easier to fit a service exchange unit. That will mean removing the alternator from the vehicle. Remove the keys from the ignition. I believe its a good idea to make sketches all the way through the procedure, that way you'll know what goes where. Disconnect the battery and remove the negative. Loosen the alternator tensioner until the belt can be removed. Disconnect the electrical connections. Remove the through bolt under the alternator and then remove the top bolt. Remove the alternator from the bracket. Fitting is the reverse procedure. Make sure the belt is correctly tightened, and you should be away. Regards Johngee10

Alternator not charging

Joe, there is no longer a regulator on this car as we would know it to be. The ecm is now also resposible for telling the alt when to turn on and off. This was done in order for the alt to be turned on and off in conjunction with the other loads and engine speed in order to be more efficiant in the long run. So from what I read here, you either have a bad wire somewhere or your ecm is toast. Replacing lights-unless for some reason the wires were cut(doubtfull) would have no effect on the alt.

Alternator not exciting

Hi ' If you changed the battery and alternator,
Check the voltage at the red wire on the alternator. if there a less than 12 volt.
Check the fuse link, that goes in the starter positive bolt.
If the fuse is bad replace and recheck the charging system.
IF charging normal. good.
If not, che the fuse in the fuse box, "" cluster".
If the fuse is blow out, replace. and check again.

OK. I hope this work for you.
