Ok...this might be an actual problem with the brake pads.....as if it was starter related, then anything that could g wrong with that change, would cause a noise at idle, stationary, driving, stopping, basically anytime the engine was running.

But, because this is only happening at driving, and stopping, i am more inclined to look at a brake issue, possibly replacement brake pads.......

It happens at idlling too. I can hear the noise when the car is in park too. Just not neutral and reverse. I hhad. My breaks checked a week ago and were told they were fine.

OK.....that is a bit of a different story then....i always say the more information the better, especially when we are trying to diagnose the car over the net...lol.........ok.......

So, the next step is to work out where the noise is coming from.....do you have a LONG screwdriver....as this is a mechanic trick of using the screwdriver as a stethoscope...you place the PLASTIC handle to your ear, and then the meatl end (make sure it is long) near the starter motor, and if the nosie is greatest here....tehn I would take it back to the original installer and questions the job that was performed or the part to be replaced !!

Grinding when turning key on to start ignition

Dodges have a gear reduction in the starter, usually. It could be wearing out. Have it checked out at a rebuild shop.

I am hearing a grinding noise when turning the ignition on my 2005 dodge ram 1500.Truck is automatic and runs fine when in driving.

Have an auto electrician look at the problem but I suspect that the starter solenoid is starting the armature spinning before the pinion gear is properly engaged in the flywheel teeth. If so the starter can be repaired either by a new solenoid or adjusting the pinion movement before the armature gets power.

2003 Dodge Neon won't start, try to jump start it

check for the starter motor but I suspect a flywheel gear worn. By removing the starter motor would be easier to check the flywheel gear.

My 2004 dodge neon sxt makes a loud grinding and rattling noise when i accelerate. the car is vibrating

I had the same problem with a Saturn I had and I would check the motor mount. If its coming loose it can damage a lot of other things costing more than what you would need.

I hear a rattling noise when im idling and when i press on the gas. I was told it was the heat shield. I have a 2005 dodge neon. I wanted to know how the heat shield was held on. and can it be fixed?

There's alot of shields on those. I've seen the ones bolted to the floor area, along the exhaust tunnel, to rot out. Not the ones bolted to the cat converter, for the most part. Very hard to replace without removing the exhaust first. Then the bolts usually snap or round off, requiring grinding & drilling to replace the bolts. Pain in the **** for anyone. Even me, a Master Tech.

have checked the starter, if it clicks, but no crank, that is a starter, if cranks, but does not turn on, that could be a bad battery. ( assuming you have gas )
