Any tips on changing a standard trans in a 2000 Saturn SC. I've never done it before?

I suggest that you get the vehicle specific manual for the exact process but here's the general idea:

Remove:
The hood, the front axle nut on both sides, the tie rod ends, and ball joint, as much of the brake system and suspension as necessary to get the axles removed.

Then, with it up in the air on sturdy ramps/supports:

CV Axles (making sure to put blanks (broom stick handle cut off) in their place to prevent anything in the transaxle from slipping out of place, the starter, shift linkage, grounding straps/wiring harness, shift cables, speedo cable or wiring as applicable, sometimes both, any lines, cables, wiring that is going to the transaxle. Remove the slave sylinder and set it to the side and tape it to prevent if from coming apart or being damaged.

You'll need to loosen the motor mounts and possibly remove the coolant hoses to the engine as you may need to tilt the engine downward to get the trans. released and have room to pull it out.

REMEMBER THE EXACT ANGLE YOU USED TO PULL IT OUT, THAT'S HOW YOU'LL NEED TO REINSTALL IT!!!!!

You should have everything out of the way, a hoist over the engine/trans compartment hooked to a sling around the transaxle to lower it and remove it from the bottom side once you remove the transmission mount and the bellhousing bolts.

There is a bar designed to hold the engine in place so that it doesn't tilt too much, you'll have to fabricate a means from underneath or above for that.

Many of these FWD manufacturers say you can't change the trans without pulling the motor too! I've not found that to be true. It has been difficult though as space is limited and positioning is everything!

It is best to replace everything, clutch, throw-out bearing, pilot bushing/bearing, pressure plate and use a good alignment tool when putting everything back together.

If the flywheel isn't perfect, you may want to remove it and have it resurfaced at a machine shop.

IT's not a job you'll want to do more than once in a short period of time.

Good luck !

How do i rermove the transmission from a 1994 dodge spirit 2.5 L engine

I suggest that you get the vehicle specific manual for the exact process but here's the general idea:

Remove:
The hood, the front axle nut on both sides, the tie rod ends, and ball joint, as much of the brake system and suspension as necessary to get the axles removed.

CV Axles (making sure to put blanks in their place to prevent anything in the transaxle from slipping out of place, the starter, shift linkage, grounding straps/wiring harness, shift cables, speedo cable or wiring as applicable, sometimes both, any lines going to the transaxle. Hydraulic clutch lines if a manual and trans fluid lines if an automatic.

You'll need to loosen the motor mounts and possibly the hoses to the engine as you may need to tilt the engine downward to get the trans. released and have room to pull it out.

You should have everything out of the way, a hoist over the engine/trans compartment hooked to a sling around the transaxle to lower it and remove it from the bottom side once you remove the transmission mount and the bellhousing bolts.

There is a bar designed to hold the engine in place so that it doesn't twist too much, you'll have to fabricate a means from underneath or above to keep it from tilting too far.

I'm an older guy and I can do one of these jobs in about 5 or 6 hours these days. (Lord help me the next day though.)

This is why you really need an illustrated step-by-step manual for your vehicle. It's a detailed time consuming job.

Keep a pan handy for holding nuts & bolts, springs & clips.

Good luck.

Hi, the starter is located on the intake part of the block in the center of the engine compartment from the driver side look for the shifter cables on top of the trans axle and it is straight back from there.

I have code p0700

The trans axle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to trans axle control. When the TCM detects a malfunction with the control, a signal is send to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to trigger the Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light. The ECM stores the P0700 code and it means the TCM detected a malfunction with the trans axle controls.
Possible Causes - Shorted or open circuit within transmission control module (TCM)
- Failure of trans axle control module
Since the P0700 is just and informative code, check the TCM for more codes to resolve the problem.

You will need to remove the axles and the subframe to get the transmission out.you will need to support the engine also so it does not fall when the subframe is removed.

Trying to locate the starter

The starter is to the left of center near the right trans-axle. You cannot see the starter from the top of the motor. Thanks. On older model cars The starter motor on the Nissan Altima is located on the front of the engine and can be changed from the top of the engine compartment.---------- Thanks.

Installing an automatic transmission into a front wheel drive

Put it on a lift, support the engine from up top or under it, if you don't plan on using the lift for another job. Pull the axles. Then drop one side of the engine/suspension cradle, then the trans.

How do i drop the engine in the 1995 buick skylark

the easyest way is to remove the engine and transmission together. leave them bolted to the subframe and disconnect everything off the engine and lower the subframe.
Or you can seperate the trans away from the engine, hold the trans up (GM makes a support bar) and pull the engine up out of the compartment. Have fun!

06 camry 2.4 engine removal

You are not going to get the engine and trans out thru the top together. What I do is hold the engine with a fender supported engine hook, and I remove the transmission.
Then I pull the engine out thru the top. Hope this helps.
Thanks for choosing FixYa.
