Question about Toyota RAV4

On my Rav 1997 when i press the brake paddle they go all the way down and then i have to pump them to stop. i have had the front pads changed out twice and i just had the master cylinder replaced and bleed so whats next that can resolve this issue. please help me?

Sounds like the couplings in the master were set wrong was it professional done? If so it also could be a crimped (bent) line .

I have changed all 4 brake pads and bleed the lines. But the brake paddled still keep keeps going down while driving.


you may have a leak in your master cylinder or brake booster valve.
typically if its your master cylinder your brakes will stop you but the pedal will continue to drop even while stopped.

2003 rav 4, just replaced front calipers and pads, after bleeding the line,peddle was spongie, bled all four lines, peddle still spongie, do I need the engine running to properly bleed the lines, and since...


I would bleed the rears too especially if the brake fluid reservoir drained empty. Also you may need to drive the vehicle to seat the brake pads. Check and see how the pedal feels initially before you road test to make sure you don't need to pump the brakes in order to stop. if you do then re bleed all four wheels.If you don't have to pump the pedal and it just feels spongy then try going around the block a few times and see if the pedal stiffens up after the pads have seated.

How to change front brake pads


the front brakes are straight forward, open the brake fluid reservior,remove tires,then the caliber,then remove pads and use a c-clamp to compress the calibers,,install new pads,,the reinstall the cap on the fluid reservoir,when you crank the car,pump the brakes three times and on the last pump hold the paddle to floor then pull the electronic park brake. you will hear the module reset....

INSTALLED NEW FRONT BRAKE PADS ON MY 2006 DODGE CARAVAN AND NOW PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR, I DID NOT DISCONNECT ANYTHING. WHY WOULD THIS HAPPEN?


When you push the caliper piston in to install the new brake pads, you have to keep pumping the brake paddle after the new pads and every thing is put back together, the paddle will come back up, do it with the engine off.

How easy it to change front brake pads on a toyota rav 4


not hard at all.remove tires.then remove 2 screws either 12mm or 14mm that hold the brake caliper in place.remove caliper but DO NOT disconnect the brake line from the caliper.get a C-CLAMP in order to get the caliper piston pushed back in.remove old brake pads and install new ones in the same order as the old ones were removed.you will want to check the rotors to make sure they are in good condition before you install the new pads,then put caliper back on and tighten screws to specs.do the same on the other side and always remember to PUMP YOUR BRAKE PEDAL A FEW TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE CALIPER PISTONS TO ENGAGE ON THE NEW PADS. hope this info helps.good luck and take care, manny

I am having trouble bleeding my brakes on a ford courier there is no pedal there when i have bled the brakes and i have also tryed changing the master cylinder and it is the same


Start by bleeding master cylinder, will take two to do this, have some pump the brake paddle about ten time every time, have them pump it and hold it down while you open brake line when paddle goes to floor close and pump again ( one of the brake lines at the master cylinder ), keep doing that till no more air comes out, then do the other brake line at master cylinder again till no more air comes out, keep an eye on master cylinder that it don't go low on brake fluid or you will have to start all over again, how go to right rear wheel and bleed till no more air comes out ( have them pump brake paddle and hold while you open and close bleeder valve, do not let them release brake paddle till you have close bleeder valve, keep doing that till no more air comes out, then go to right rear, then left rear, from there right front and last left front.Hope this was very helpful, good luck.

I have just replaced my front brake pads and paddle drops to the floor how do i bleed the front brakes.


If you did not open the bleeders just keep pumping the brakes paddle will come back up, if you did open the bleeders have some one pump the paddle on hold down open bleeder do this on both sides till no more air comes out.

I am replacing the brake pads on my Kia 2007 Sedona; front and back is neeeded or just front? Took it to Kia dealer and mechanic showed me pads where very thin and needed replacement; all for $400! Heck...


If your rotors are good and fairly smooth, then a decent ceramic pad will work well. Just be aware that ceramic pads will require a slightly greater paddle pressure. They will last longer, dust up a bit less and will perform MUCH greater in stop and go traffic...

I suspect that 25 dollars per axle is a typical cost for good quality disc brake pads.

2007 Rav 4- Front Brake pad growl during stops


I had a 2008 rav4 and within the first 10,000 I noticed this problem. Had the pads changed at 12, 22, 30, all free of charge from the dealer. Had the rotors replaced as well twice, the issue came up again & since it was a lease I threatened to sue and I was released from my term fee free. If you are having the same issue post here we need to open a dialogue. I'm sure many people have just paid for repairs without thinking it's an issue on the vehicle. Toyota will deny it until it's a media issue....
