How do you get the air out of a coolant system in a 2007 Buick Lucerne ?

In 2007 the Buick Lucerne was equipped with 2 engine options. 3.8 Liter OHV V6 and the Northstar 4.6 Liter V8.

Was the cooling system recently opened? What was serviced?

The 3.8 has a 7mm bleeder screw on the top of the thermostat housing. A funnel in the radiator is helpful to bleed the air. You will notice the upper radiator hose curves to a higher elevation than the bleeder screw. Manipulation of the hose by hand may be needed to get the air out. I recommend and use a cooling system funnel to help. It minimizes mess as well. ( ) There are other brands available as well.

I do not recall if the Northstar V8 has a bleeder on all models, but some do have a similar bleeder screw. Be sure the system is filled initially and manipulate the hoses up and down as well as squeeze them to get air moving. The Northstar water pump is on the back side of the engine driven by the camshaft. The upper hose runs along the front of the engine bay and connects to the radiator at the top on the passenger side of the engine bay.

For both vehicles, fill as much as possible cold. Start and idle. As the temperature increases, I recommend occasionally revving the engine to between 1500 and 2000 RPM to fill heater core and move coolant with a little more force.

Engine and radiator coolant replacement

there is a pet cock at the bottom of the radiator. it will either be in one of the bottom corners or directly in the middle. Or you can just pull the lower rad hose off and put back on. please make sure the engine is cold when doing this. the best way of refilling it would be to go to an auto parts store and buy an antifreeze "burp" funnel. Use this funnel by attaching it to were the rad cap is fill it with coolant then start the car let it run till it gets to operating temp and watch the funnel till no more bubbles are present. you can speed this up by turning your heater on while doing this procedure.

2002 honda civic over heats in traffic....i replaced radiator thermostat

ensure that your thermostat is facing in the proper direction. Since you've lost alot of coolant during the thermostat replacement, you are probably low on coolant. If you filled it up then you probably have air in the system. To get rid of the air in your system, remove the radiator cap, find a funnel that has a tight fit on the radiator where the cap was, add coolant ( if it is snugged it wont fall over or leak) as if you are trying to overfill it. fill it up to the point where the coolant is pooling in the funnel. then let the engine run and keep an eye on the coolant making sure it does not go dry. when the cooling fan cycles twice it should be good to go. if you cant find a funnel that will fit snuggly, just keep filling up the radiator with the engine running until the fan cycles twice.

Running hot

The temperature gauge will not work correctly if the cooling system is not filled correctly and has air in it. This will also cause your engine to overheat.

I use an inexpensive cooling system purging funnel made by a company named Lisle. It has adapters that fit onto the radiator neck and a funnel attaches so you can "overfill" the radiator to get the air out of the system. Fill it until the funnel stays about half full and run the engine until the cooling fans turn on and off at least twice. Then there is a plug with a "T" handle that you stick down into the funnel neck to plug it. Then you remove the funnel from the radiator and you can put it in the antifreeze bottle or the coolant reservoir on the car and pull the plug out to drain the excess antifreeze from the funnel.....Works VERY well...Neatest thing since pockets on T-shirts!Check the link below to see one. You can probably also buy one at your local auto parts store.

There is a light lit up on my dashboard. On the left hand side of the dashboard there is a red box with a liquid image with a arrow pointing down. What does this mean? What fulid am I low on?

this is the warning light for the coolant level in the rad(or overflow bottle.)check the rad and overflow bottle for the proper coolant level and top up,be aware sometimes these sensors act up even though the levels are proper,in which case the sensor may need to be replaced.the sensor is located in the radiator tank that runs along the side of the rad core and is part of the is a single wire sensor.

The interior of the fuse box has the same diagrams as would have been on the vehicles manual or user guide. Once opening the fuse box, lookk in the cover for the diagram. Second, a blown fuse is observable within the circuitry. Third, the vehicle should indicate within the dashboard what condition is occuring. For example, the vehicle should display indication warning on requesting lighting inspection or alternate.

DO NOT operate your CRV until you have drained the coolant from the engine and radiator, then flush the system thoroughly w/ water.. Why did you add liquid detergent to the radiator? This will cause foaming of the detergent, and will probably result in diminished cooling of the system. Please describe the dashboard light that's on . Is it some type of symbol? Do you notice anything unusual about how the car is running? Please let me know the answers to the above questions, and the outcome. countrycurt0
