Welcome to Fixya

If you already tried the paper clip method then most likely the tail light assembly circuit board films or wirings that is having the problem. Use a test light to check for power at the tail light assembly, while you have the switch bypassed.

Thank you for using Fixya!

On my 1990 vovlo 240dl the dash light want come nor the tail lights and only one brake light works but i done replaced the bulbs and checked the fuses what else can cause it

dash lights and brake lights are two different circuts. If one brake light works they both should. Check where the light is incerted for a short problem ( rusty or dirty ) As for the dash lights this is controlled by the light switch see if you have it turned back to dim. If not may be a bad switch.

Hi, I have a couple of questions.
1. were the signals working before you replaced the brake light bulbs, and did you use the recommended bulbs?
2. Do the brake lights work now?

The brakes and signals use the same filaments, so these things are tied together.

lamp failure light on possible because the SECOND filament in your STOP/TAIL Light Bulb is burned out- change one side and check fail lamp again- repeat on other side- fail lamp works off of resistance-burned or blown bulb is only way it lights unless you have a wiring issue

Head lights and brake lights not working

check power wire which runs to the brakelight with a test light, get someone to apply the brake on and off and see if there is power getting back to that point, if no power check the switch on the brake pedal to see if power is getting to that point.
also check the earth on the bulbs because they wont work if there is no earth

The low beams and brake lights on my 91 Volvo 240 SW won't work

Check the wire connections, also check that bulbs are tight. you may need a new brake switch located on the back of the brake pedal for the (rear lights) As to it all happening at once I have no guess sounds like a loose connection or a wire shorting due to warn wire coating.
