Question about Volkswagen GLI

1 Answer

2006 vw Jetta 2.0Turbo GLI, Air conditioning not cooling. Compressor is Regulator Valve(no clutch) type made by Zelex/Valeo. System is fully charged, but not building any pressure (as displayed on R134guage set). Cooling fans only cycle with engine temp, no operation with a/c request(think thats do to not enough pressure on high side) Data PID readout for compressor is Normal request no problems. Tap regulator wires at compressor with Fluke 11.67 steady with request engine running a/c on at idle. Cancel request via switch on control head 0.00 volts present at regulator. I think compressor is done, any thoughts?

Hi MechxD.

About the Jetta AC, if it is charged it is usually the compressor. I think that there was a service bulletin recalling Sanden AC compressor 1K0 820 803 S

Check limiter (see pic.) and control valve. The limiter gets easily damaged and control valve gets stuck with metal particles.

Looking for a piping diagram for AC system on 2006 GLI VW. Location of the drier/accumulater

I know this isn't a free solution but if you're into DIY repairs an official service manual will easily pay for itself. I had a 2000 Jetta until recently and used my manual dozens of times to validate the $50 expense.

Clutch replacement instructions for 1986 VW Jetta

The release bearing goes in the back of the transmission. You'll need to remove the round "VW" cap on the end of the transmission. I would need to see the pilot bushing to know for sure. It could be the starter bushing or the clutch pushrod bushing.

A/c in jetta blows hot air, its been charged, compressor comes on.

you need to have it diagnosed by a professional. These are complicated systems even to a trained tech. You may be over or under charged, have a clogged expansion valve, have a leak or many other issues. This model has a rcv refrigerant control valve inside the compressor which regulates the pressure of the compressor. If you notice the compressor never shuts off like conventional auto a/c's do the only time the clutch works is when you turn it on or off. Can be complicated.
