Question about 2000 Ford Escort

1 Answer

My car stalled twice earlier today. I was stopped, it restarted without a problem, stalled again within 30 seconds (still stopped), easily restarted again. I only knew it stalled because the radio paused then came back on, there was no unusual sounds and it didn't feel rough. I made it the remaining 3 miles to work without a problem. Now I'm paranoid about going anywhere. It also stalled about a week ago while in park, but running. Do you have any ideas whether this is something simple or major? It has approx. 140,000 miles and is in need of an oil change, but is not overdue.

Check the engine mounts. A friend of mine had a similar problem whereas acceleration caused a stall because the engine was rocking out of position.

Stalling and bucking!

Injectors, even if one is bad, the increase in resistance in the SFI system kills the other injectors too. When it starts to run bad, unplug injectors one at a time to see if it runs better.

Check engine light/engine stalling, related?

GET AN AUTOPARTS STORE TO READ THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE. OXYGEN SENSORS ARE COMMON CAUSES. DON'T SEND RAW GAS INTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. IT WILL BE COSTLY TO REPLACE.

Next time this happens, reach up and try to turn the key like you are trying to start. It shouldn't engauge starter while in gear so don't worry about that. If it starts up when you do this, you most likely have a weak switch and the weight of your keys swinging may me shutting you down.

Engine stops while driving & engine revs high between gear change

Hi, were the spark plugs ever replaced in the car recently ?
As when they get old & hot they can cause these sorts of problems & also cheap brand plugs as well do the same.

Car keeps Stalling

Is the check engine light on? do you have the A/C going when it happens? Is the car running hot? Possible places to look would be the intake air temp sensor, or the idle air controller. (if applicable). I have heard that some cars will kill the motor if the fan switch has died.
