Question about Buick Rendezvous

Open Question

2004 Buick Rendezvous - Heater/AC fan switch shorting out. I had issues with the switch working on only 2 speeds. I then replaced the resistor block. I then got all speeds except 2. The AC Light came on with #2 but blower not working. Also, the AC and other 'directional' switch didn't work either only worked for a 10-30 seconds. I then pulled the dash and found the switch burnt on a couple of pins. I replaced the switch and control head BUT now the fuse keeps blowing the moment of going from 0 to 1. Can anyone tell me a good way to troubleshoot this problem. There is defiently a short and I need to figure out a way to trace this. I got a wiring diagram that wasn't much help. Couldn't read it and illegible. I still have the dash panel out and obviously tied to the resistor block because I disconnected it and the fuse doesn't blow but of course nothing works either. Thanks KK

Fuses blow because of higher amperage than what the system is rated for. This could be caused by short to ground or a component such as your A/C compressor that's seizing up demanding more amperage to actually be able to turn. The other issue could be caused by a failed resistor block or contact on the switch. Resistor blocks are usually the cause of this issue.

Heater blower stopped working?

Hello,
You may want to try your fan on all speeds. If it will work on high, you have a bad resistor for the fan motor. ( high speed doesn't go through the resistor ).
If it doesn't work on any speed, I would check the following;
1. Make sure the fuse isn't blown for the fan blower motor.
2. Check, or have checked the wires between the fan control switch and the fan blower motor.
3. Have the fan control switch checked.
4. Have the fan blower motor checked.

I hope this helps you.

Heater fan short.....Fan quits working. Relay or something loose?

check the heater motor hot lead as well as the ground wire on the heater motor they have common ground fault issues that result in bad / weak connections also check the fam motor speed control resistor located under the hood in the AC/heater box

it may be a loose electrical connection on the blower motor or the switch itself.

The resistors are in circuit only on the lower fan speed settings.
On the highest speed setting, power is switched directly to the fan motor.
Check fan power supply fuses,
Check power is available to the fan when high speed selected.
If all above OK, apply power directly to the motor to verify fan motor runs- if it doesn't the motor may need replacement/repair.

2004 Chevrolet Silverado Heater/AC Blower on without Ignition ON

there is no relay for the heater fan it's a 15 amp fuse and is on the accessories circuit. the reostat is responsible for all 3 speeds .with the key off there should be no voltage to the blower motor whether the fans speed fan switch is on or off. the fuse will be located in the fuse paneleither on the drivers left side in the dash or underneath the dash in the fuse block. you have a short in the harness that is under the dash and most likely it's a bad plug on the harness. your going to have to do some searching but that's where the problem short is... please rate
