1996 Honda Accord EX 4 cylinder will not downshift? It feels like it goes off in high gear and will not lower or start off in first. It is stuck in gear. It will not go up a small incline or hill. It will go in reverse. In order for me to get it to go I have to turn the car off and back on to get it going again if it slows down to a stop. What could be wrong with it. Could it be the Transmission Computer or what do you think it could be?

Those are known for having bad torque converters which eventually ruin the transmission. sounds like the transmission is already bad, Sometimes if you catch it early enough, you can just replace the torque converter and it would be fine.

1996 honda accord 5 speed transmission stuck in gear

Let's look at your slave cylinder and your master cylinder.
Under the hood of your car are two master cylinders, and physically, they are close together.
They are found right in front of you as you drive the car, except they are under the hood and about chest high.
My 1990 has them right along side one another.
The brake master cylinder reservoir is about 4 inches in diameter, the clutch master cylinder reservoir is about 3 inches in diameter. Both of them take quality brake fluid.
Sounds like your clutch master cylinder is dry of brake fluid.
It would be nice if all you had to do was to add brake fluid to the "fill" line, but then you'd have air in that system, and it would need to be "bled" to work.
If you do find the brake fluid low, very likely the slave cylinder needs replacement, as your car is the right age to need this.
Be blessed.

1991 honda accord ex.

Before any fixing is started see if the car has a trouble codes and pull them. The connector is blue and located in the lower right hand side of the passenger side of the car. You have to remove the plastic and use a jumper wire or a paper clip to jump the terminal. watch the blinks for the code numbers. If it is one long blink then that counts as ten, then how many others blinks. like, 10 + 5 =15. Hope this worls for you.

Feels first gear doesn't engage from stop

About the only thing you yourself can do is to check your transmission fluid level, and replace if necessary.
Sadly you will probably need to take the car into a service center to be tested properly.
