Question about Chevrolet Caprice Classic
Your belt did not burn off because the engine is hot. It burned off because one of the pulleys has seized. With the belt off, all pulleys except for the one attached to the crankshaft should be easily turned by hand. Find the one that's not turning and replace it or the component it's attached to (steering pump, alternator etc) and your problem will go away.
