I have a 1995 merc tracer 1.9. The reverse lites come on in park(very dim). When you put the car in reverse after running it dies. Its only runs when the rev. lites are dim in park.

Usually a surefire way to check the problem is first check the fuel pump relay.when you turn the key you should hear the relay click(they are located underneath the center console on the passengerside) if the relays are good, then check the fuel shutoff switch to see if it was triggered(this is located on the passenger side in the rear wheel housing, there is a little pull off panel and it's marked.press the reset button on top if it's tripped. If you still have a problem the othere things to check are the firing of the plugs if there is fire your fuel pump is bad,if not you eithere have a bad coil pack or a timing belt issue

What is the timing for a 1994 mercury tracer trio. i belive i have to replace the timing belt and the water pump. im not sure tho bc the feul cut off came on first than after i filled it up it went off. im...

First check to make sure the fuel shutoff is still on. When the engine jumps timing it is usually caused by either the water pump bearings went bad and seized or fell apart. The other is when the belt is old or excessively worn and breaks. Timing marks are dependent on engine size. 1.9 engines have single cam and all marks point straight up. 1.8 is more detailed depending on if it has 1 or 2 cams.

Replaced the radiator, heater core and thermostat and car still wont heat up...my car is a 94 mercury tracer stationwagon

Hi,

You've go so far but you havn't mentioned the water pump ! It's possibly 17 years old and due a rest. It's called a pump but it's mearly circulates the water provided the thermostat is open. It'll be a cheap fix compared to lifting the cyl head and head gasket replacement! You seem to have had some advice , replacing the difficult stuff (possibly from the supplier of a rad and heater matrix core??? ) If the car is running there is heat somewhere ! check the temprature of the Rad hoses , the will be hot (caution) after a few minutes of running. then check the two smaller hoses going thru the bulkhead (into heater matrix) and both sould be equally hot under normal conditions. If not .... pump replacement is a worthy option.

94 merc tracer stopped running, fuel cut off light came on, tried reset button, changed fuel pump and filter, still no start. code says cam sensor in distributor, before spending more money does this sound...

Yes it is reasonable as the cause of your problems. Check the connections first and then try to start the car. If you have good compression that means the Timing chain or belt is connected. I would try to look in a Manual at the Autoparts place and ask if you can buy the part and return it if not needed.

The firing system needs to know the position of the Cam for the engine to run.

I have a 98 Toyota Camry 2.2L. Starter won't disengage

your car is the easiest starter problem car in the world to work on. That's the 4 cyl, right?

the solenoid is mounted right on top of the starter, Whack it a few times with a rubber mallet. Check the wiring harness connections.

My 1994 tracer won't start

Hi there,

Have a few questions.
You said you had fire. Is this true on all cylinders?

Is there any backfiring?

Pull the distributor cap and have someone crank it for you.
Is the rotor spinning?

Pull the plug on cylinder 1. Stuff a rag in the hole. Crank slowly until the rag pops out. The engine should be on or very close to Top Dead Center.
Which plug wire is the rotor facing (distibutor)?

I have my suspicions.
Get back to me with the results to confirm and proceed.
Mike
