My engine light is stuck on too. My oil looks ok and isn't due for a change yet. What other things besides an air filter will the engine light indicate trouble for?

My check engine light comes on and the engine seems to sputter / run rough. It will do this and then go off and run fine.

Go to an autozone to get the codes read then google the codes to see what the fixes are.  I had a light for three years that wouldn't go off.  After many $s i found the fix on google, clean the throttle body.  it took 15 minutes and they (auto shops) wanted a grand.

Bring it to any Auto Zone parts shop. They will read the codes - for free (Most repair shops charge like $90 for this), write down what it is and see if it's either legit or really important. O2 sensor is very common. This one is not a biggie.
They can then clear the codes....my suggestion is, try that and if it continues to come up soon after, have the repair done.
One io the "issues" was air senor...something had nested in where the air filter was...long ago.

Check engine light goes, on and off all the time in this car a Necco waffer, takes care of the problem. Sometimes I have the trunk light, gas light and check engine light on at the same time, I feel like I hit the lottery, there isnt anything wrong. I thought the car was made in Germany, but it was made in Mexico.

2001 vw cabrio--when i acclerate the cars stops and I have to restart with same result. Check engine light was on but replaced oxygen sensor, which fixed problem. 7 days later, the check engine light is...

It could be the same problem or a totally different problem. You can take your car to AutoZone and have your car scanned with a OBD II scanner for free and see which codes are coming up now.

yes it could simply have a code that needs to be reset but i would also bleed all the lines and check the wires at the sensor behind your brake rotors

I NEED TURN OFF THE LIGHT ENGINE OF MY CAR A VOLKSWAGEN CABRIO 2001

depending on the mileage you could have a service interval light popped on or something more severe. Take it to auto zone or the equivalent have them scan your vehicle (a free courtesy for customers) and they can erase your codes or check to see which code popped up. However, if you do have a trouble code and erase it, it will pop up again within a matter of weeks or miles dependent on your vehicle usage
