I replaced the head, am confused about timeing marks. Some say line up with marks on timing cover some say line marks on gears towards each other. also haveing to install gears the intake one is easy with only one key way. but exhaust has 2 key ways on back???

REPLACING TIMING BELT ON A 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON 2.7L V6
1. Remove passenger side headlight via the 3 10mm screws holding it in place and disconnect the turn signal and main harness
2. Remove passenger side tire
3. Remove the splash guard via 2 10mm screws at the top of the guard
4. Remove the 2 17mm bolts and 2 17mm nuts from motor mount bar
5. You may have to separate the mount bar from the motor via either a
chisel or flathead screwdriver and a hammer ( support engine via a jack
and a piece of plywood under oil pan )
6. Use a 3/8 ratchet ( or a long breaker bar would work better ) to
remove the serpentine belt ( remember the route ). Disconnect the power
steering hose from the pump and secure back with a zip tie. Remove the
power steering pulley with a pry bar and 19mm socket.
7. Hand turn the crankshaft via a 22mm socket to TDC ( top dead center, marked on lower timing belt cover )
8. Remove the serpentine belt tensioner via 2 12mm bolts on each side
9. Remove the upper timing belt cover via 7 10mm screws
10. Remove crankshaft pulley ( 22mm ) with an air impact gun ( an electric one will work too )
11. Remove lower timing belt cover via 4 more 10mm screws
12. Remove the motor mount from the block via 3 14mm bolts and 2 12mm
bolts ( there is a 12mm holding the oil dipstick bracket towards the
front of the car )
13. Remove the auto tensioner via 2 12mm bolts
14. Remove the timing belt
15. Make sure your timing markings are correct...
There is one marking on each cam gear and on the heads ( head markings
are small, look closely...try wiping the edge of the head down with a
rag and some brake cleaner to bring it out more ) They are also
pictured in last pic.
When the crankshaft is in the TDC position, the cam gear markings should both line up at the same time with the head markings
Adjust if necessary, use a 17mm socket to turn cam gears to correct position
16. Install new timing belt ( as you install it, make sure to keep a little tension on the belt as you route it )
17. Install new auto tensioner and pull pin
18. Install just the lower timing belt cover
19. Install the crankshaft pulley
20. Hand turn the crankshaft atleast 5 times to verify the timing
markings are lining up properly ( all should line up at the same time
when the crankshaft pulley mark is in the TDC position )
21. Remove crankshaft pulley
22. Remove lower timing belt cover
23. Reverse steps 12 - 1

How to time engine --Turn crankshaft to t.d.c. turn camshaft so valves on number four cylinder start to open and close ( rock back and forth )line up marks on cover and cam gear .key way will line up ,may have to move cam just a bit.
Remove the serpentine belt, remove the lower crankshaft pulley, place a
jack under the oil pan and jack up the engine slightly, remove the
engine mount (right top). Remove the timing belt cover, loosen the
timing belt tensioner and pull tensioner pulley back toward the rear of vehicle.
I like to then tighten the tensioner bolt to hold it in this position,
remove and replace belt. If you need to put the engine in time then look
at the camshaft there is a small arrow in the center, it lines up with a
dot on the end of the cylinder head. The lower timing mark is a small
metal tip that sticks out from the lower gear, and it lines up with a
notch cut into the front cover just behind the lower gear. Once aligned
properly put the belt on the lower gear and without turning the lower
gear or camshaft gear pull the belt tight up to the cam shaft the cogs
in the belt will line up with the grooves, then place the belt around
the water pump drive gear and under the tensioner, then push the belt
over all gears by hand without turning the engine. Loosen the tensioner
bolt and apply a little pressure toward the front of the vehicle and
tighten the bolt. Replace everything else previously removed. Engine
should start and run normally.
their is timing marks where they suppose to line up stamped into the engine block cam gears and on the head. twin cams u points marks on cam gears straight toward mark on other cam gear
Install the cam sprocket, timing chain, and timing chain cover. Make sure the dot on the crankshaft gear is pointing towards the center of the Camshaft gear bolt. Make sure the hole in the Camshaft gear is pointing towards the center of the crankshaft. Be sure to remove the nail holding the chain tensoner back, before installing the timing coverThe round hole in the cam gear is the alignment mark
roll the crankshaft pulley around until u get the mark to line up with 0 or TDC. once u get the cover off mark the cam sproket to the head with whiteout and mark the crank gear to the block also. (in case they move on you. loosen tensioner and pry to one side.tighten tensioner bolt and remove the belt. install new belt and get the slack to move toward the tensioner side. (u may have to move the cam slightly to allow all the slack to go toward the tensioner. then move it back to the mark, making sure the crank didnt move. loosen tensioner bolt and let it spring toward the belt and apply pressure with yr hand a little more snug while u tightn bolt. then rotate the crankshaft 2 revolutions by hand and your marks should line back up. if the marks are more than 1/2 tooth off u must re do it!

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove radiator upper fan shroud from radiator.
4. Move drive belt tensioner to loose side using wrench
then remove drive belt.

5. Remove cooling fan assembly four nuts, then the
cooling fan assembly.
6. Remove cooling fan drive pulley assembly.
7. Remove idle pulley assembly.
8. Remove serpentine belt tensioner assembly.
9. Remove power steering pump assembly.
10.Remove crankshaft pulley assembly using
5–8840–0133–0 crankshaft holder, hold crankshaft
pulley remove center bolt, then the pulley.
11. Remove right side timing belt cover then left side
timing belt cover.
12. Remove lower timing belt cover
13. Remove pusher.
CAUTION: The pusher prevents air from entering
the oil chamber. Its rod must always be facing
upward.

14. Remove timing belt.
CAUTION:
1. Do not bend or twist the belt, otherwise its core
could be damaged. The belt should not be bent at
a radius less than 30 mm.
2. Do not allow oil or other chemical substances to
come in contact with the belt. They will shorten
the life.
3. Do not attempt to pry or stretch the belt with a
screw driver or any other tool during installation.
4. Store timing belt in a cool and dark place. Never
expose the belt direct sunlight or heat.

1. Install timing belt.
1. Align the mark (notch) of crankshaft timing pulley
(2) with mark on oil pump (1).
Align the mark (groove) on the crankshaft timing
pulley (3) with alignment mark (white dots line) on
the timing belt (4).
NOTE: When timing marks are aligned, No.2 piston will
be on Top Dead Center.

2. Align the alignment mark on the RH bank
camshaft drive gear pulley (2) to the alignment
mark of the cylinder head cover RH (3).
3. Align the alignment mark (white line) on the timing
belt (1) with alignment mark on the RH bank
camshaft drive gear pulley (2) (on the left side as
viewed from the front of the vehicle) and put the
timing belt on the camshaft drive gear pulley.
Secure the belt with a double clip or equivalent
clip.

4. Align the alignment mark on the LH bank
camshaft drive gear pulley (2) to the alignment
mark of the cylinder head cover LH (3).
5. Align the alignment mark (white line) on the timing
belt (1) with the alignment mark on the LH bank
camshaft drive gear pulley (2).
When aligning the timing marks, use a wrench to
turn the camshaft drive gear pulley, then set the
timing mark between timing belt and camshaft
drive gear pulley and put the timing belt on the
camshaft drive gear pulley.
Secure the belt with a double clip or equivalent
clip.
NOTE: It is recommended for easy installation that the
belt be secured with a double clip or equivalent clip after
it is installed the timing belt to each pulley.

6. Install crankshaft pulley temporarily and tighten
center bolt by hand (do not use a wrench).
Turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise to give some
belt slack between the crankshaft timing pulley
and the RH bank camshaft drive gear pulley.
2. Install pusher and tighten bolt to the specified torque.
Torque : 25 N·m (2.5 Kg·m/18 lb ft)
1. Install the pusher while pushing the tension pulley
to the belt.
2. Pull out pin from the pusher.
NOTE: When reusing the pusher, press the pusher with
approximately 100Kg to retract the rod, and insert a pin
(1.4 mm piano wire).
