I replaced that sensor and the rpm still the same once the car gets to temp. I also replaced the TPS and the thermostat and nothing. Could it be that the MAS air flow sensor went bad again; Pontiac service department replaced it back in april. again i checked for vacum leaks and there aren't any. should i go back and have them test it again. I used the obd 2 and to ckeck why the check engine light was on and the code that came back was( PO 507 idle air control system RPM higher than expected )

well I did what you said to do and the the car still does thesame, now I got a new sympton in the morning at cold start I have to pump the gas to make the engine run otherwise it would die If i don't keep the foot on the gas. I scanned the computer for the check light engine and I got code ( PO 507 idle air control system higher than expected )

I replaced the harness fuel pressure because every robber boot was cracked; that apparently fixed the idle problem which it didn't happen until a couple days after however the car still hesitates when going at speed of 40 mph or more up on a hill

Most common thing for this is either a failed coolant temp sensor that is not telling the computer that the car is warmed up and it is still running at cold Idle speed adn the code will tell you that.
Or a vacuum leak and the computer is trying to make up for the leak my making changes to the fuel deliery to keep the engine running .
If you find this information helpful please give me a fixya! Rating and if you need more help on this problem please contact me.

The only way to find out what code is stored in the computer and what turned the check engine light on is with an OBDII scan tool and also the only way to turn off the light but just turning off gthe light does not fix the problem, as soon as the computer does it checks again and you have completed the predetermined dive cycles the light will return so the only way to keep the light off is to properly repair the reason it was commanded on in the first place!

Is there any chance that the hard stop is adjusted too high? The screw that adjusts the idle speed like old school cars this is suppose to be all the way out so the throttle plate is all the way closed and then back in just to touch the manual linkage and 1/2 turn in as a starting point

Get some propane and shoot it in through the PCV hose and see if the idle comes down if so you are dealing with a lean condition like a vacuum leak

the 4.0L engine?
is this engine cold or hot.
why is 2000 rpm wrong for 60mph., (depends on engine and axle size and what gear you were in , then)

the idle speed for hot is too high
did you scan the PCM yet?
if hot , idle is high, is the thermostat holding water temp 180f or above. ? if not that is the problem.

Willthe bluebird sss oil pump fail after 20 years

It certainly could.
Also, at that age, the bearings and clearances could be getting slack so oil pressure would be expected to get lower.
If oil pressure is high when engine is cold, and low at idle when engine is hot, and high at higher RPM with hot engine, then it's more likely engine wear than bad oil pump.
Low oil pressure at high rpm with hot engine indicates failed oil pump. Best not to run when you have this condition.

Warning lights not going out

this a 1996 Toyota Hilux??????????
is RPM at 300? or 800,. 300 is bad idle and alt will fail there.
water level, ,
timing belt? (no way on any 96 !!!)
oil level in 1996, ? ahhh you think pressure is level , gotch.
what country is this. ive not seen all 50 country Hilux.s ever.
its not USA car. so?????

check engine RPM
if dash has RPM this is easy, 800 good, lower bad
cold engine RPM is about 1500 and drops to 800 hot.
is this car EFI or CARB, many cars not in USA are carb up to 2001.
to get best help. for all engine issues.
  1. Post your Country, is that so hard,. not one poster ever did.?
  2. Post engine type, most cars have 3 engine options,, land-cruisers 12 engines. world wide.
  3. List all engine related symptoms, misfire , bogging stalls, and engine shaking or low idle RPM or too high,
  4. check all fuse and report the status of the CEL lamp, key on CEL glows, and running stays off. if not insert the check jumper and read the flash codes, CEL on running means the ECU wants to tell you what and why tests fail.. listen to it or fail.

89 cutlass cierra crank but wont start when wet out unless gas pedal is pushed

This should be a drive by wire vehicle meaning it has a cable for the throttle body. First thing would be to see if any error codes can be pulled up (most parts stores will do that for free.) Drive by wire versus the late model that use electronic control for the idle have a IAC or idle air control which when first started controls the idle air intake--all air is run by it to idle the vehicle when cold--

Usual symptoms are rather high idle when cold engine or even idle and RPM jumping up and down and stalling when cold.

Another way if idle does drop when cold is tapping the gas--engine will still run until hot. Means not usually a fuel pump issue.

You could also have if the vehicle is fuel injected a dirty Mass air flow sensor, a throttle position sensor, etc.

These can be if the vehicle has them cleaned using a special zero residue spray cleaner.

First have it scanned to see what if any errors it shows--the computer.

Bought car five days ago. when originally cranking rpm's would stay high and only go down once in gear. now when cranked rpm's are less than a thousand and oil light comes on and starts to run hot. while...

The grinding below your feet is the starter, the oil light will allways come on when the rpm's drop to low.
This sounds like a vacuum leak, clogge EGR, throttle position sensor,or incorrect timing.

what is the temp when you say it is overheating?

96 f-150 idles really high

I just solved this problem on my truck after fighting with it for 2 yrs. Mine is the 5.0 though, check your PVC valve and replace if it is bad. After that Take off your IAC and spray down with carb or brake cleaner and scrape all the carbon build up out of it and work the spring inside. you gotta really clean it out though! After that if it's opening and closing easily put it back together and it should work! you might have to adjust the idle a bit to get it all the way. But after doing this my truck went from a 2000 rpm idle down to about a 700! I hope this helps you!!

Engine high rev at stop and slowly goes to idle speed.

I've got Hyundai Lantra 1.6 year 2000. It's take time to start when it's hot. When I start my car it revs at about 2k-3k rpm. It also does it when I come to a stop. When I come to a stop it will stay at a higher rpm than that of idle speed. It drives ok when on freeway but uses more petrol. I have changed the water & petrol pump but no luck
