1999 lunina car wont start first time but then starts and runs good why wont it start first try?

Try turning key on and off a few times before you crank it. If that helps, check your fuel system. My info for fuel pressure on 3.1L engine, key on engine off, 40.5--47 psi, use a fuel pressure gage to check.

does the mottor turn whenu turn thekey? or will it not start......if it wont turn over (motor not spining) check battery. if it does then check fuses for the fuel pump or fuel pump telay if they are good check for pressure at the fuel rail if no pressure prob pump is shot if it is then u have to go electical next ie ignition system, finally if all check out good your problem would tend twoards mechanical......three things make an engine run fuel spark and mechanical compression

Will not start first try but will start

If the engine starts and run good on second or third time. Install fuel pressure gauge and run the engine for a wile and turn OFF. the fuel on running engine will be 60-65 PSI. After 5 min. will drop to 40 PSI.If continue to drop to 0 PSI suspect fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump.

My 01 jeep 4.7 wont start died at stop ligh,t fuel pump starts when i turn key i smell fuel turns over fast but start, wont even try

If you are smelling fuel, there may be a good posiblility of a fuel leak. This must be checked first for safety of you and your car. The fuel system runs by a high pressure fuel pump. If there is a fuel leak and the pressure is not building in the system, the engine will not start.

Wont start

I'm assuming the engine is cranking over while turning the key and wont start. from this assumsion it possible the cam sensor on the timing chain is broken. or no fuel pressure. to test for fuel pressure, turn the igntion key on, locate the fuel line & port on the fuel line, remove the cap & depress the small screader valve by using a small pocket screwdriver, fuel should shoot out with a lot of pressure. no fuel shooting out most likey the fuel pump is bad. if this has good pressure the cam sensor is most likey the cause. to replace the sensor, you need to replace the timing chain.
