Yes! There is undercoating sprayed on the underside of your jeep to protect and deaden sound. This is dried onto the threads of the bolt protruding through the floorpan. When you try to remove the bolts the friction is so great that the bolts will always snap. To remove the seat, it is not necessary to take the support plates out, only slide the seat to one side or the other to clear the hole and grommet then pull seat upward on that side to remove. Pull back the fabric at the front of the seats and you will expose the pivot rod that is inserted through the hole that I spoke of above. There may be some kind of clip in the grove that needs to be removed so you can slide the seat and rod over to the side so that it will clear the opening.

How do i remove the driver seat in a 2000 mercury cougar when i can not reach the bolts and the seat does not move

You just have to get the bolts out. The rear bolts can be somewhat difficult when the seat is back and will not move forward. In this case, remove the front bolts first. Then you will probably have to use a wrench to get to the rear bolts. There is usually not enough room to get a ratchet and socket in there.

NOTE: GEARWRENCH makes ratcheting wrenches that are perfect for jobs like this one. They give you the convenience of a ratchet, while providing you with the clearance of a wrench. For more information on this go to

Anyway, to get enough clearance for the bolt to come all the way out, (or the nut to come all the way off if your Cougar uses nuts in the rear) you may have to work both rear fasteners at the same time and tilt the seat forward as you go (Which is why we took the front bolts out first). This is especially true if you are using a box-style wrench. Be sure to loosen each bolt incrementally so the seat CAN be tilted to avoid getting your wrench trapped.

Once all the bolts are out, you can tip the seat backward to access the wiring connectors under the seat to disconnect them.

I need to remove driver side seat on 2009 Maxima my wife dropped a diamond from her ring and need to get access to get it out from under the seat

should be 4 bolts holding seat into floor pan, one under each corner of the seat. Remove bolts, unplug any power connections , seat should come right out.

Drivers seat

You need to unbolt the seat from the floor, then put a large piece of sheet metal or really large flat washers (at least 3" diameter) under the legs to distribute the weight more evenly. How you repair the one that broke is largely dependent on if the leg broke or if it went through the floor. you can replace the seat with one from a scrapyard or if you know someone who can weld it without setting it on fire, (don't attempt to weld with the seat in the car) do that. if the leg went through the floor, then just use a large plate underneath to reinforce it and replace the bolt if necessary. Usually the bolts are case hardened steel so if one broke it may be easier to cut them all off and re-drill new holes just in front or behind the old ones. I'd only do that if the old one cannot be drilled and re-tapped though. Always use grade eight bolts to replace hardware. They will prevent the seat from tearing from the floor in an accident.

Should just be 4 bolts holding the seat to the floor, and unplug the wires. Only way to fix it is weld it, or get a different base from an auto wrecker.

I replaced the headline recently and lost the parts to attach the rear seatbelts back up, what do I use?

The bolts at the end of the seat belts should be screwed into the mounting holes in the floor, which I believe are threaded at the ends, so u shouldn't need anything at the end of the bolt. Let me know if this is not correct.
