For some unexplained reason my alarm goes off. It hasn't done this before and i do not know why it is now. I have checked the doors are shut and the bonnet and boot and they are.

Security alarm goes off every 15 minutes for no apparent reason

Hi Gregg, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair

Gregg, several things can cause a car alarm to go off. One of the most common reasons is the alarm switches which are mounted to doors. under hood, trunk. When these switches go bad OR get corroded from water, can cause the alarm to go off with just the blowing of the wind moving the car. Check this by pushing on each door and see if the alarm goes off. Also push downward on the hood and trunk. Even door adjustments can cause the issue, because if a door is not tight it can move and set the alarm off. One other thing is sensitivity, the alarm box can be going bad and the slightest movement of the vehicle can set it off. I have a 2002 qx4 and the alarm goes off for no apparent reason. If you shut it off it will just go off again. All doors and windows are closed and locked. It just alarms for the heck of it. Bought a new...

Check the hood pin switch for the alarm, you could of pushed it down a bit when installing the battery so that when the hood is closed it barely opens the switch. Any amount of moisture will make it have contact...also, check the door switch in the door jam. one of them could be bad. if you walk around the car and push on each door individually, you might be able to manipulate it into messing with the alarm or door ajar light. Or just open the door and press it with your finger and see if you find the bad one---I hope this helps.

Hi, when egnitin is turned to the on position and the engine is turning its not making any attempt to fire, when the key is truned in the off position all the dash lights are still illuminated and wont go...

For the fuses, if you have the owners manual it should show you which fuse goes where. If it is not labeled on the fuse box cover, check your owners manual.

If the alarm is the reason your car wont start, make sure the hood is down, door closed (if its a manual transmission, in neutral and brakes applied) I don't know very much on alarm systems, Just that there is a hood switch, so the hood (aka Bonnet) must be shut and latched before the vehicle will start.

after that's all sorted out, it would be good to check if you have spark, fuel and compression (those are the three key factors for an engine to start)

I hope this helps, let me know what you have done.

Alarm goes off for no reason. 97 Jeep grand Cherokee.

There is a security system built-in to the Jeep Grand Cherokee during these years. The reason the alarm goes off is because of a change in the electrical system (like shutting a door) that triggers the alarm. To stop the alarm, either disarm with the remote or unlock the door from the outside with the key. This will shutoff the alarm.
