Question about 1999 Ford Expedition

Have random cylinder misfire, Diagnostic codes p0300 and P0302 revealed. Also Malfunction indicators for: Misfire Fuel Comprehensive Components Monitor Catalyst Monitor Evaporative System Monitor O2 Sensor Monitor O2 Sensor Heater Monitor Any ideas where to start.

    Code 300 multiple misfire. I have fitted new plugs and leads, fitted another EGR modual, (The litle rectangular ally thing with two rubber hoses going to emision tube

    Just replaced my engine and can not stop rough idle

    Code 300 multiple misfire. I have fitted new plugs and leads, fitted another EGR modual, (The rectangular ally thing with two rubber hoses going to metal
    tube), checked for vac leaks, (none found) check injector wires and
    made sure connectors are properly fitted. Leads are fitted to
    correct sequence. I have used my original inlet manifold and exhaust
    manifolds, coil pack,and the secondary butterfly controller.

Not much.
Code 300 is for a random miss. The engine computer has detected more than one cylinder that is not producing power, but no one cylinder is constant.
Until you get a code like 301 or 303 its a guessing game. 301-306 would tell you which cylinder is being the problem.
The cause could be fuel or spark.

Basically this means that the the car's computer has detected that not all of the engine's cylinders are firing properly. A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why. Symptoms Symptoms may include: the engine may be harder to start the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate other symptoms may also be present Causes A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Faulty spark plugs or wires Faulty coil (pack) Faulty oxygen sensor(s) Faulty fuel injector(s) Burned exhaust valve Faulty catalytic converter(s) Stuck/blocked/leaking EGR valve / passages Faulty camshaft position sensor Defective computer Possible Solutions If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back. Codes P0300 P0302 P0303 P0304 P1176 P0133 P1300 P1580 P1543 B0423is running but having trouble building speed and going up hills


Codes p0300 random misfire, p0302-0304 misfire cylinder 2-4. P0133 o2 circuit slow response bank 1 sensor 1. P1176, P1300, P1580, P1543, B0423 r make specific which you didn't say this would cause the problems you are having.

Im assuming your asking about the ODB-II codes, this code,P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected.
A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why.
Here are a few things that could be the cause.
  • Faulty spark plugs or wires
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector(s)
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
  • Faulty camshaft position sensor
  • Defective computer

    I would start things out with a tune up, new plugs and wires, wires break down after time and could be grounding out, or arcing between themselves causing a misfire.

A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why.

    For example, a P0302 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #2; same condition in P0301 - cyl #1, P0303 - cyl #3 and P0304 - cyl #4.

    A code P0300 (or 301, 302, 303 or 304) may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
    Faulty spark plugs or wires
    Faulty coil (pack)
    Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
    Faulty fuel injector(s)
    Burned exhaust valve
    Faulty catalytic converter(s)
    Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
    Faulty camshaft position sensor
    Defective computer

    About your possible solutions, if there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

    If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs).     Unfortunately, P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinders are mis-firing, nor why (code P0301 would indicate cylinder #1; P0302 would indicate cylinder # 2 etc). This means there could be an issue with any number of components/circuits relating to the ignition/combustion circuits.


    I would recommend you check for the following:

    • Faulty spark plugs and/or HT leads
    • Faulty coil (pack)
    • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
    • Faulty fuel injector(s)
    • Burned exhaust valve
    • Faulty catalytic converter
    • Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
    • Faulty camshaft position sensor

    Sometimes the underlying cause of a random misfire is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold, unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or even an EGR valve which is stuck open.
