You have an issue with the clutch release mechanism, it is most likely hydraulic.

On my 96 sunfire the clutch pedal went to the floor!! I still have half an inch of pressure from the floor and clutch will not engage reverse!! Any suggestions!??

does your car have a hydraulic clutch
just had similar problem on my Jeep had to replace the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder.
you can bleed some clutch master cylinders removing air in system check fluid level full then bleed master cylinder keeping an eye on fluid levels not to run system dry..

good luck hope this helps (PTL)

2002 dodge stratus clutch has no pressure. just drops to floor.

First make sure there is fluid in the clutch master, if its full then you may have a bad clutch slave or master, if empty or low you will need to fill and bleed clutch to locate the leak. most times its the slave that leaks but also could be the clutch master that leaks.

Can 2002 sunfire slave cylinder leak and make the clutch slip from the fluid. their's no fluid in the resiver and car wont start

If the resivor is empty then when you push on the clutch it isn't disengaging allowing the engine to start. The best way to fix this problem is to install a new slave cylinder fill the resivor with fluid have someone push the clutch down open the bleeder valve to let the air out. close the bleeder valve release the clutch push down the clutch hold it to the floor open the bleeder let the air out close the bleeder and let up on clutch. continue doing this until you have a stream of fluid coming out of the bleeder with no air. after every 2 or 3 times check the resivor and fill as needed and dont run it out of fluid while doing this or you will have to start over. After you get a steady stream of fluid from the slave cylinder bleeder when you push on the clutch you will be able to feel the clutch disingage and be able to start the engine and drive.

Clutch adjustment

Its either the clutch fluid is wrong or not at the correct levels or it has not been bled correctly.

It feels like the clutch may be going out. It's starting to shift hard, and the clutch has to go at least 2/3 to the floor before it engages. The fluid levels are fine. Any suggestions

you may have a hydrolic clutch .. check for a master cylinder similar to the brake master cyclinder near the clutch pdl .. it may be low on fluid .. .. i am assuming you meant that the clutch had to be near the floor before DISengaging .. if its a mechanical hookup instead then there is an adjustment for that (free pedal adj)

if the adjustment is out of range then you could have a bad throwout bearing .. but usually they make noise when the go bad ..

Clutch

believe it or not, the floormat on my 2000 Sunfire will sometimes slip forward and hold the clutch pedal down against the floor. It truly feels like a mechanical problem, but simply pull the floormat away and the pedal pops right back up!
