Question about 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche

1 Answer

I closed a tailgate with some coolers inside the bed that were a tad larger than the bed itself. I had to slam the tailgate shut in order to get it latched. Now I can't open the tailgate at all. The left side is jammed. The right side unlatches. Even after I have released the pressure on the left side, I cannot unlatch it. Any suggestions?

Remove the tailgate handle trim cover, disconnect handle from side that's not working & pull on rod manually. ( thats if it's not broken already) You have probably broken rod from handel.

Tailgate on a 01' Ford Windstar LX is rattling.

From your description, I believe your tailgate is not latching when you close it. Slamming it shut instead of simply closing it should solve your problem

Tailgate won't latch without shutting in numerous times.

Check for sheet metal damage to either the tailgate or the mating faces on the bed. Check the latch adjustments on each side of the bed.

Tailgate doesn't shut. I used to have to slam the tailgate real hard for it to lock, now it doesn't close at all

check the tailgate lock rods behind the handle. The bezel around the handle pops off, and the mechanism is behind there. The rods that go to each side of the tailgate may be stuck inward. A little wd-40 or lubricant should work them loose again

I am not getting any fuel from fuel tank the my engine.

Fords have a fuel shut off switch in the rear. It could be tripped when slamming the tailgate shut. In the bed on the drivers side you should be able to find the switch. Press it down to re-engage. If you have a bedliner this may be harder to find.

Tailgate will not close and stay shut

there are bolts on the side of it and on the back and posiblly the bottom. take them out. just watch when you take out the ones in the middle of the back side your handel will fall out. take off that black cover.and you should be able to see inside of the tail gate.

How to access tail light bulb in 2005 ford f-150

Drop the tailgate, on the inside of bed where tailgate closes are couple of screws. These hold the light assembly in the bed. remove the screws, then remove light assembly. The light bulb can be removed from back of the tail light assembly. Check to make sure the lightbulb work before you put the tail light back together. Good luck and hope this helps and don't forget to add some grease to the light socket to prevent corrosion.

The handle is removed by pulling the panel inside the tailgate, just below the top of it...it's held on by 6 or 8 screws. The latches on the bed itself are held on by torx head bolts, if I'm not mistaken

1998 dodge ram 1500 need to open up the tailgate

not sure what you mean by "sealed unit". if your problem is that your tailgate wont latch together properly, check the condition of the tailgate cables and look for damage to the outer covering and cable itself. it could be that the cable is getting caught b/w gate and bed when you close it. due to a misalignment. yes, i would lubricate the mechanisms with wd40, or a quality graphite lubricant. i would also access the internal mechanisms that actuate the tailgate opening. lubricate those parts too. finally make sure that the cable's tang is slid past on the bolt. this should fix your issues.

Borrowed friend's truck - opened the tailgate - now it won't close. seems like the latches are doing nothing, nothing moves or catches when trying to slam/close it shut. Help?

On the truck body there is bolt potruding. On the tailgate, there is a hook that when pushed against the bolt, will shift to grab the bolt and hold the gate closed. This hook can shift just enough to bang against the  bolt instead of hooking it. Use your finger or a screwdriver to push the hook back (or down). You should be good to go. sslgrits
