SOURCE: where can i find the timing marks on 1998 ford escort zx2 ?

Hello pamgolmon: My name is Roger and i will answer your question. The 2-0 dual cam engine is a interference engine. This means if the engine jumps time at the timing belt. It will bend the valves. As for the timing marks on the camshafts. Their are no marks to be located. To set the timing marks on this engine requires special tools. This makes it expensive for not only the do it yourself mechanic but also the repair shops also. If the valves were bent you must pull the head for the repairs also.
I know this is not the answer you were hoping for but it is the only answer to give. Please rate the quality of the answer as this way we know your answer was correct. Please just ask if you need further help. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

What is the timing belt service interval for a1991 Ford Escort, 1.8L?

60000 miles is recommended. if it has oil on it then immediately and stop oil leak. 91 is a non interference engine which means if the belt goes it doesn't eat the valves.

REPLACE timing belt. Line up timing marks on cam pulley and crank gear to marks on engine. Get a good manual from autozone it gives a goo picture of where to find these marks.

Ineed a timing diagram for 1995 1.9 ford escort

both the cam gear and the crank gear timing marks should point straight up. if you are replacing your timing belt you may also want to replace your timing belt tensioner and water pump. I have owned several escorts and have learned the hard way that it is a good idea to replace all of these at the same time.

Instruction on how to put timing belt on a 1991 ford escort

First put the car up on jackstands, remove the front left wheel. disconnect battery, take the drive belt off, remove the drive belt tensioner, put a floor jack under the engine with a block of wood or somthing to support it, remove the motor mount by taking the 3 bolts off of the body and the bolt out of the center of the mount. Remove the crankshaft pulley, this may require a pry bar. Take the bolts out of the front cover and remove it. Take the timing belt tensioner loose by loosening the 10mm bolt and rotating the tensioner with a hex key. remove the timing belt. I would also replace the tensioner while I was in there. Line the cam and crank up with the index marks, the cam has a pointer on the sprocket that lines up with a dimple behind the pulley. The crank has a keyway that lines up with a mark on the block. Install the timing belt and tension it making sure the marks do not move, then rotate the engine by hand 2 revolutions and make sure the marks line up again. After that reinstall everything in the order you removed it and fire it up. -Jared

Broken timing belt

its better to get a mechanic to do it then do it your self, if you do it yoursel u will have many more problems for the incorrect timing. find a low cost effective dealer and you will find that cheaper and quicker then doing it yourself.

Timing Belt Replacement+Diagram

No it will NOT bend valves on this particular engine, if it goes out of time. I would replace BOTH the timing belt and the drive belt at the same time, since both are very inexpensive, even from the Ford dealer. Line up both timing marks on both the cam and crank sprockets in the 12 o'clock position. The marks are very easy to see, once you remove the timing belt cover. Hope this helps.
