Could it be a cracked header, I have that problem atm. It is more obvious when parked or driving past a wall etc. It's like a fast ticking. Go-jeep says they go about 110,000 k's. J.

Audi A3 clicking noise when car is idle

I had a friend of mine who drove an Audi and came to me with a sound which I would have bet was main bearings on his crankshaft. I told him that exploratory surgery was the only option. He later spoke with someone who suggested different oil and as soon as he changed the oil, the sound went away. I found out later that not only was it not the crankshaft which I heard,(it was a vacuum pump mounted on the head) but that this was a typical problem with Audi engines. I had used the highest quality synthetic engine oil when I had done services for him, and in the end he solved that problem with a lower quality oil. I suggest that you call the dealer and see which oil they recommend and try it. If you have no luck, I can call this friend of mine to find out exactly which oil solved his problem (it was several years ago and I forget). good luck

Sounds like a wheel bearing issue. You need to take it to your local friendly mechanic so they can put it on the lift and find out which one it is. Good luck

I HAVE SAME JEEP SAME PROBLEM...I have found out after research that all these jeeps like yours and mine have a common problem with engine clogging and the valves sticking and the rocker arms coming off.....This is true I pulled my valve cover off and the rocker arm had come off because the valve was stuck ....Pressure between the rocker and the cam and the valve is the only thing that will keep the rockers from falling off......And when the valve starts to stick the rocker falls off.....This is sad but true.....Also it is badly clogged with black chuncks of burnt oil....I dont know what causes this other than the wrong weight oil....but I only used the wrong oil maybe 2 times...
There should be a recall on these because the rocker arms shouldnt come off.....I think the rockers are wrong from the factory....I am a level 2 chrysler tech.and also ASE certified.......It makes me angry that they built these so weak !! ....All you can do is remove the heads and have a complete valve job done and clean the oil pick-up tube in the oil pan as well....then a complete engine flush..
.....ONLY use 5w20 weight oil also........If you dont have the cash dont tear it down cause I almost guarantee you have the same problem as I.............Hope this helps.................Metalpoet

Loud rattle noise in Camshaft

First, your engine has rocker arms, if you have a 4 cylinder you have 8 rocker arms, and if it is a 6 cylinder you have 12 rocker arms. Now if it is indeed a rocker arm making the noise, the cause is most likely a bad lifter or a worn cam shaft.

Did you know Jeep did a recall and paid for replacement of catalytic converters on 1996 models (don't know about any others) - they reimbursed me for work done, up to a point - hope this helps!
