The filter is a round canister usually orange depending on the make but it unscrews and holds about a quart of oil. usually located at the front of the motor midway down.you have the have a filer wrench to get it off

Hello, I have a Grand Cherokee Laredo, 2001, 3,1TD engine. I have a issue with my heating system: The Jeep is not heating enough, reads about 60 degrees C. I have changed the the thermostat, but the...

Thermostat was the right start. The heat works by using heated coolant and pumping it through a heater core. If you take the jeep to a local garage to have the heater core flushed this should fix the problem.

Why is the old oil filter empty when I changed the oil?

I have the 4 litre (UK) version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Your oil filter is 'horizontal'?
It's simply because the oil filter isn't 'upright' and doesn't hold oil - think of a coffee mug: A coffee mug standing upright can hold more coffee than a mug lying on its side.

When you start the engine the oil pump shoves oil into the filter. When switched off, the majority of oil finds its way back to the sump because of gravity. Remember that it's an oil filter which receives oil at pressure. It's not an oil container/reservoir. You have nothing to worry about.

How do i do a self oil change on a 1995 jeep grand cherokee

locate oil drain plug on oil pan, engine off. take out oil plug with wrench, drain oil into a big pan or similar. when oil is drained remove oil filter and put new one on, put some new oil on filter seal with finger then screw on to car as tight as you can get it by hand. do not use a fiter wrench to tighten filter only hand tight. use oil filter wrench to take off old oil filter. when filter is on put plug back in oil pan and tighten. then add your new oil to reccomended oil level.

2004 jeep grand cherokee engine management light on gear box won;t change up or down . had this problem a few times; just used to stop the car turn engine off @ back on car would drive ok, after a mile...

I had a similar issue on a grand cherokee '98 4.0L, and it was because the gearbox was overheating due to old oil and the fact that is was low on oil. Change gearbox oil and the filter inside the gearbox checked the two band tension and adjusted them and all was ok. the oil should be red or a dark pink. It would point more to this being the poblem if when it does change gear, the gear changes seam slow or slugish or change happens at higher engine revs. You may be able to get a fault code from ecu, by turning ign. to acc then on then off then on then off then on then off then off hen on again (code is displayed instead of odomitor reading as PXXXX or POXXXX). This could point you i one or more directions if oil seem to be correct.

2004 jeep grand cherokee, 4.0, change oil without filter change,

Not sure why the question is even being asked, but you can change the oil yourself in about 15 minutes; simply jack the front end, put a pan under the oil drain plug, open the plug, let it drain, put the plug back in, and add new oil.

Take it to any outlet that changes oil (Wal-Mart, for example, charges about $18, some places charge as little as $15) and they'll include a new filter because otherwise you're running new oil through an old filter, which defeats the idea of the oil change. You can ask them not to put on a new filter, but you'll still pay the base price.

My question is, why would you not want a new filter if you're changing oil.

Let me know if this answers your question.
