My 2000 Pontiac Grand Am sounds like it's going to crank, but it just wont. It sounds completely normal and I haven't had any problems with the car before... I went to a friend's house and it sounded completely normal. Then when I left the friend's house, it took like 10 cranks to get it working. Then when I got home, it just wouldn't crank anymore.

Its the security, turn the key to off but leave it in, then open and close the door, then puch the lock door button on your driver side door, then try to start it, the light should stop blinking and all should be fine

Check and make sure your security light isn't on.  The security feature malfunctions on these models often.  If the security light is on, turn everything in the car off (radio, a.c. etc.) turn the key off, turn it back on to acc tap it into start until if just starts to turn over then leave it in the relaxed start position.  Allow the car to just sit like this for up to 20 minutes.  The security light will go off and you will then be able to turn the key off and then start the vehicle.

Is the security light on? If you have spark and fuel, it should run. Any codes? Could be bad crank sensor or cam sensor.

Changed starter and alternator and still wont start on 1988 grand am

There are few things that you will have to check. 1) Is the battery properly charged. 2) Are you getting spark at the spark plugs, when you crank the car to start. 3) Is there proper fuel in the car. ---------------- If the battery is not charged properly the car will not start.Check the voltage of the battery .It should be exact 12volt. If there is no spark coming when you crank the engine then its the problem of either the spark plugs or the coil pack.the spark plugs gets power to spark from coil packs. Also check the fuel pump and fuel filter. If the fuel pump and fuel filter are worn out then it will not supply the fuel properly to the engine and this results in no-start problem. If all battery, fuel pump and spark plugs checked out OK then its time to check the wiring connections between the battery to starter and battery to alternator. This will help. Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

My 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE is not wanting to start. It's had this problem for a while but never this bad. I've changed the fuel filter and the spark plugs and it ran for a day or 2, now it wont crank at...

Your fuel pump may have gone bad. You can remove the air filter housing and spray some carb cleaner into it while somebody cranks the engine. If it starts, you know it has a fuel problem.

Car cranks but wont start

replace your injectors. your vehicle is getting the fuel to start from the starter fluid. however the injectors arent giving it the gas that it needs to stay cranked

I disagree with the testing of coils, it has proved fault many times. I would check fuel rail pressure, as fuel pump commonly lose there abilty to build pressure but don't totally die. A DIS spark system should have the abilty to jump 1" with proper battery voltage. With good plugs the spark should be blue in color. The starter may be getting hot, or if it comes against compression when the engine attempts to start, it will do it's job and go back in.
