I have a 2003 GMC Envoy XL that is leaking a brownish colored fluid. It appears to be thinner and more watery than engine oil. It is a very slow leak that looks like it is pooling in the lower plastic fender and then dripping down from the very front center of the vehicle. There also looks like there is a small radiator that I can see through the lower front grille that has an oily appearance on the passenger side but appears dry on the driver side. My problem is that I don't know where the leak is originating from.
Found out it was the power steering fluid cooler had rusted and was leaking power steering fluid.Found out it was the power steering fluid cooler had rusted and was leaking power steering fluid.
Found out it was power steering fluid. The power steering fluid cooler rusted and fell apart in a couple of areas. Rather than replace with an OEM cooler, the lines were run to a cheaper cooler that was purchased and attached to the radiator.Found out it was power steering fluid. CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL. SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING. BEST THING TO DO IF NOT.TO CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER.IF TRANSMISSION FILTER STOPPED UP TRANSMISSION CAN PUMP ENOUGH THROUGH DIRTY FILTER TO OPERATE WHEN FLUID GETS HOT BECOMES THINNER THEN IT WILL FLOW THROUGH FILTER BEFORE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT RIGHT.
Sure sounds like a slipping transmission to me. When is the last time you changed the transmission fluid? Before you go dumping $2,600 for a new transmission, I'd do a transmission fluid change first. If you do change the fluid, use Dextron 6, it's GM's new transmission fluid, much better than the fluid you have now. Not to scare you, but my transmission went out at about 100k miles, so you're doing good if it hasn't been rebuilt yet.
Ask the wife if it is really oil or something more like steering fluid/transmission fluid/transfer case or worse front axle assembly.
Bottom line, someone has gonna to crawl under there first to get a 20 on the leak. those engines are so packed under the hood, very little can actually be seen from above.
first what colour is the fluid and the drip will always come from the lowest contact point follow the drip line and you shud find your problem it wud be helpful to know what make of car and wut color the fluid is
I would look into a tune-up as the spark plugs are a common cause of issues on this vehicle. I would at the very least remove the plugs and inspect them. If they are fine then it may be a clogged fuel filter.
Check the coolant and oil level
if the fluid is low it will cause the noise if it is low there is a leak and could have got air in system and cause noise and possibley cause damage to pump and gear box
