Question about 1999 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

Strange guage surges on Ford 350.

I have a Class C motorhome with a Ford 350 chassis. Occasionally my fuel and temp gauges will surge unexplainably. When this happens the fuel gauge will go up considerably and my temperature gauge will peg at hot. This condition will last for a few minutes and then the gauges will go back to normal. The first time it happened I thought my engine was suddenly overheating for no reason. Now I have learned to check the fuel gauge anytime my temp gauge appears to be hot. The changes are very sudden because I have never actually seen the needles move up or down. This has occurred dozens of times in the last seven years we have owned the motorhome. Does anyone have an explanation? Ford, Windstar, 19999 Dash panel cluster of:  Fuel, Temp., Tac and Speedometer gauges surge unexpectedly with erratic behavior.  (Cannot take key out of ignition for the Tac needle is jammed into the steering column.  Have to leave Van in "N" with the key in the ignition...for the 2nd time this month!  My father is on his way over to get it out of the way again!!!) I am wondering if Luisa_K's problem with her Ford 350 is the same as mine. Desperate in Milw!

I think the ford 350 might be a loose ground wire. This can cause the erraticness within the gauges.

The windstar is a faulty sensor switch on the brakes master cylinder. It leaks brake fluid into the wires that are connected to it causeing a short circuit and resulting in a blown fuse that powers the AC, cruise control, odometer, speedometer and the ABS light to remain on. This issue can also cause a fire. This fire can occur even when the car is off. To fix the problem go to this URL - http://www.fordwindstarrecall.info/

2007 F350 4x4 regular cab V10 gas guage quit working I had the sending unit and fuel pump changed the fuel guage went to 1/4 and sat there. Any tips? Fuel guage wont work.

I'm assuming this has dual tanks, do you know if it is not working on both tanks ?
Most people would check the circuit for the gauge at the tank. The sending unit grounds the gauge on the dash.

1998 damon intruder fuel pump issues?

I have a 96 which had issues with the original ford pump at 28,000 miles. It would shut down after about 200 miles of continuous running in the high elevations. Col, and Wyom. Solution was to replace ford gear fuel pump with an after market turbin pump. According to the tech from the western states that this is common with high alt. and high temp running. ( have not had a problem new pump)

Fuel pump does not work- 1999 ford super duty class a motorhome

Check your vehicles safeties. Your ECM is probably programed for engine shutdown if it senses low oil pressure or low coolant level. Do a preliminary check.

The gauge can very well be "lying" to you.

As a precaution, I would do a routine cooling system service on it. This includes completely flushing the coolant, replacing the thermostat and radiator cap (believe it or not, a bad cap can cause issues too).

On the few Fords I have owned, mine were always in the middle, or to the left of the middle.

Motor homes should run cooler actually, beings as they tend to have heavy duty large capacity cooling systems.
