Question about 1989 Nissan Pulsar
The main problem that I know with the nissan pulsars are actually the (other than gearboxes :P) are the cluster gauges, Let me assume for a moment that your thermostat gauge wasn't working... Let me now assume you were on some sort of highway when the light continued to come on... and then let me farther assure that you were losing a fair bit of power... Cross your fingures and hope that I'm wrong because if I am correct then when you put two and two together you get an over heated engine... Other than that my ECM light comes on all the time.. I just ignore it now (since i last replaced my engine). Other Issues or questions that I have for you now hopin it aint a dead engine, Does the starter motor try to turn over at all (sound like it has a dead battery) If so and the battery is fine a great thing to do (even if it aint turning over at all) is grap urself some high quality cable, such as your jumper leads, get a good connection on some METAL on your engine and put the other end of you jumpers onto the negative on ur battery, this may be a simple earthing issue, known to cause lots and lots of trouble but at the end of the day... an easy fix.
If this dosnt do it and the starter motor isnt turning over at all and your sure that you have a good battery it could also be the starter motor... dont worry about buying a new one... these can be bench tested very easily with a car battery, jumper leads and a screw driver (somthing to jump the circuit)
You say that you replaces you distributor so I'm not gonna mention anything about that as I'm assuming you know the new one works fine ;) but hey dont fret.... its a car and simply a mechanical piece of equiptment
You need three things to start your engine.... (not including fuel which you could check :P jks) A working Startermotor thats kicking in, Spark and compression.... if you got spark and the startor motor then your problem is your engine...
Also one thing i didnt mention is you ignition switch... when you turn your key on do you hear a sorta click noise coming from around your fuse box... maybe you should check your ignition switch :O\
well best of luck and lemme know how it all goes
