Question about BMW 318

Engine will start, run for 3 minutes and dies. fuel pumps both are working, good spark, new wires,cap,rotor.

Sounds maybe like a faulty air mass/flow meter. try replacing that & see how you go. just make sure the numbers match or contact a dealer to get a list of the superceeded numbers to cross over.

It sounds more like a fuel problem to me then a bad coil or spark ign the spark should be blue but its hard to see in daylight
You say you rebuilt the carb are you sure your main mixture jets are at least 2 to 3 turns out off the stops .
Try pouring fuel down the barrel fill the float bowl if it runs then dies its fuel don't let it catch unfire you should have 45 sec. of run time then adjust the the mixture screws 2 turns is base but when its is running good turn them in 1 at a time and give it 30 sec. to adjust until it starts to stumble then back it out a 1/4 two 1/2 turn then repeat on bank 2

My 97 tahoe the rpm's start going funny engine startes running like its missing popping and ******* and die's it has new fuel pump ,sending unit ,rotor,cap.cam censor ,fuel relay everytime i c


I'm assuming you replaced the fuel filter when you did the pump.
You'll have to try to figure out if you are loosing fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs to proceed.
Its possible something is failing inside the distributor among other things.
I'm also assuming you have checked the computer for trouble codes.

1992 isuzu pickup,2.6 engine , surges up and down after 10 minutes then shuts off

engine surges, then stalls. correct.>?

nice testing , rare here, real nice !!!!
spark good as it stalls
so if engine is ok, compression, (seems cat is not melted with 20 " HG)
is flooding or starving for fuel,.
one or the other, you can find that out.
if spark timing was ok, then the belt did not slip. on cam)
leaving only fuel issues.
so DO the magic , WOT, cranking trick this trick (logic in ECU)
cuts the injectors dead, cranked, to unflood all engine with EFI.
do that?
check spark tips, for 3 to 4 hours dead.? be next
2.6L (is 4 cylinder.) is cam belt drive, i never fail to check it first
the fail, at 60k miles, all do. all rubber band engines do.,

if all this is ok, not flooding
one can start engine with test fuel, and even keep it running
even with (hint) fuel pump relay pulled.
if that works, the fueling is wrong.
injectors leaking,? ?
if only one spark tip is wet , soaking in fuel, Injector issues.

when it stalled pull all 4 plugs and look at the tips.
(if cam is timed right) be super super first thing, on this 4 banger.

Look for some electrical or fuel related heat affected problem ... Something stops working when the car gets to operating temperature. Beyond that, I can't be more specific, Tony. Good luck ... When you find it ... post your answer please.

Carburated vehicles ether have an automatic choke, or the very old ones, a hand choke. Yours has an automatic choke. The starting problem likely is a problem with the choke. The problem is almost certainly not the fuel pump.To set the automatic choke, push the accelerator to the floor, and RELEASE. Then start the engine just like you would a fuel injected vehicle. If this doesn't solve the problem, then the automatic choke needs to be repaired.
