My 1990 BMW 525i is over heating

Try replacing the thermostat. It is supposed to open when the water temp reaches a certain point usually around 180 degrees. It might be stuck in the closed position.

Need to replace engine thermostat on 1990 festiva

follow the top radiator hose fron radiator to engine, there at end of the hose is the thermostat housing. remove hose from engine side, also remove the 2 bolts from housing to reveal the thermostat. remember which way the thermostats positioned in the housing. replace with your new one and also new gasket. reinstall your hose and you should be good to go.be prepared to lose some fluid when you remove the top radiator hose. i've always found that a little rtv glue'''blue glue''' will hold the gasket in place while you're replacing you thermostat. hope this helps!!

Replacing thermithat

On a car that new, you shouldn't need to replace the thermostat unless the vehicle has been abused (coolant leak, extreme operating conditions, etc.).

None the less, follow the top radiator hose to the block, you'll find the thermostat underneath the flanged device that the hose is connected to the block.

If you are replacing because the car does not seem to get hot enough, then you've got other issues. What temp is indicated on the vehicle dash thermometer?

Thermostat

Usually the replacement thermostat.

Some sockets in the rights size to remove the thermostat from the car should be on one of the big hoses going into the engine. Some come with gaskets some don't need them. You usually get one with the thermostat when you purchase it from the store. Usually a very cheap part. 15 -20 dollars max.

How do I replace the thermostat in my 1990 buick LeSabre?

Hello thank you for using FixYa.com for your answer my name is David .
This should help you out if you have any other questions please let me know.

  • Drain some coolant into a clean container until the coolant level is below the thermostat housing.
  • Remove the upper radiator hose connection from the thermostat housing.
  • Loosen the housing bolts and remove the housing.
  • Remove the gasket and scrape it carefully from the surface of the housing and the mounting surface on the engine. If the gasket remains on either of the surfaces, there will probably bea coolant leak after reassembly. Some engines use a rubber O-ring to seal a thermostat housing.
  • Compare the size of the thermostat to the old one. They are of different sizes, types, and temperature ratings.
  • The temperature rating is stamped on the sensing bulb on the bottom of the thermostat. The temperature bulb faces the block.
  • When replacing a thermostat, be sure that the thermostat fits into the groove in the block or outlet housing. If the thermostat is installed upside down, the engine will overheat.
  • Install the gasket.
  • Reinstall the thermostat housing. Refill the system and run the engine or pressure test to check for leaks.
  • When the engine has reached operating temperature make sure the thermostat opens.
  • You should be able to see coolant circulating within the radiator.
  • Another way of checking thermostat operation is to feel the top of the radiator hose or use a thermometer or multimeter with a temperature probe to confirm that the coolant is warming up.
  • If the engine is overheating, but the top hose is still cool to the touch, the thermostat is stuck closed and must be replaced.
