Cant get key out of ignition - 1994 GMC Jimmy

sounds like the ignition key switch is worn and needs replacing.

The tumblers may have collapsed. In which case you would have to replace the switch. They can be replaced if you can get the key in.. If you get a replacement you can try forcing it, if it locks up you will have to drill it out to get it replaced.

cant hotwire your vechicle has the PATS SYSTEM.your keys has transponder on it.the ignition switch antenna ring and immobilizer control module and ECM read signal emitted from the keys transponder if you have no keys or wrong keys the PATS SECURITY SYSTEM DISABLE IGNITION SYSTEM CAR WONT CRANK.CANT HOT WIRE CAR WITH THE PASS KEY SECURITY SYSTEM.older cars back in 70s you could hot wire newer cars you cant.

Somebody tried to steal your car maybe? Sounds like you need to replace the ignition lock cylinder.

these puppies are notorious for that.

Did you try some panther ****? (i.e. wd-40 or PB Blaster into the ignition switch?)

for better results limit your number of keys attached to the key ring going into the ignition switch to a maximum of two or three..

Try and move the steering wheel around while you remove the key. It may have it locked in place.

OK first thing- Car has to be in park to pull the key from the ingnition. if it is and you still cant pull it, rock the wheel back and forth alittle (sometimes the columb lock doesnt lock properly and you cant release the key until it locks, rocking the wheel usually fixes this problem). and the last possibility is that the tumblers in your ignition have broken, when this happens you cant pull the key from the ignition because you cant turn the key back to the off possition all the way. when this happens you don't want to pull the key because you risk not being able to put it back in the ignition later and are forced to replace the ignition so you can drive your car. However if the tumblers are indeed broken you will have to replace the ignition anyway, atleast by leaving the key in it you can still drive the car until its replaced

i think there is a ignition problem , might try replacing it , of course you cant turn the steering if the key wont turn , its a theft prevention device.

Is the car in Park?

your key may overly worn and replaced, try jiggling the key and steering wheel at the same time. if that doesnt work try sraying a penetrating oil, like WD40 or PB Blaster, into the lock cylinder. it could also be the shift knob safety switch not disengaging or a faulty ignition switch
