This past weekend I was driving my 2003 Chevy Avalanche Z71 and it hesitated shifting into gear. when it did, the shifter was almost to the floor. It has a lot of free play and won't shift into P-R-D-3-2-1 with ease. Is there a solution & diagrams on how to fix this issue?

I'm not having an issue with the 4x4 drive, the problem is shifting into the gears from P to R-D-3-2-1. there is a lot of free play with the shift lever and when shifting to R-D-3-2-1 it bypasses the gear and makes it hard to find what gear you're in; or it feels like it's jaming up and not trying to go into gear at all. Is there a diagram out some where that shows the inter working of the gear shift area? that can help with a repair, or is it a problem with the linkage cabling under the vehicle that is preventing it from shifting into gear?

Your 4WD system is computer controlled & there is a failure code set in the TCCM (transfer case control module).This can be verified with the use of a scan tool that will access the TCCM system find wiring problems (grounds,shorted circuits) & control modules to be at fault. Test these circuits wit a 12 volt test lamp or volt meter.

Additionally, other easiest way to check another posibilitie is to remove the actuator, take a screw driver and stick it in the opening, you should feel spring pressure. Push in on the screwdriver, there is a slider/blocking ring assembly and fork internal in the housing that the actuator pushes on.What I want you to do is manually engage it ,or at least try to.

While holding pressure against the slider with the screwdriver turn the front driveshaft , this should engage the front diff. If it does not turn the cv axles then we have just confirmed the problem is internal.

I have seen alot of problems with these differentials. There are several washers and selective shims that go bad, also the diff shaft has a snub on the end of it what happens is that breaks and the washer falls down into the case then jams in between the slider. This does not allow the fork to travel therfore not engaging the 4X4.

Check, adjust or replace the shift cable end to the transmission shift lever ball stud.

Ask your dealer about some TSB for this subject (I rememeber hear something about this)..

The linkage came loose from the shifter to the transmission, I suspect. That should be an easy, or cheap fix.

Have a 2003 Dodge Intrepid. I can't get the shifter on the column to move out of park even when I move the steering wheel up,down & side to side. Is it the cable, the link, what?

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

I have a 2002 excursion, The gear selector goes into park, but the vehicle continues to roll. It will also only start in neutral.

Its gear shift issues.

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

2003 chevy suburban 4wd 1500 lt shifts slow to 2nd gear and vibrates between 65 and 70 mph

Sounds to me that you need your trans fluid changed and filter. When you do change it use a quart of Lucas transmission conditioner to it. Also check and see if you may have a bad univercel, It will also make it vibrate at faster speeds or your drive shaft may need to be rebalanced.

97 chevy truck 1500 gear shift gets stuck in park

You can remove the interlock off the gear shift or maybe spray some crc on it otherwise probably a loose wire or switch

98 Chevy K1500, four wheel drive floor shifter won't engage.

I had the same problem with my 98 z71, I put the floor shifter in neutral, and let the truck roll backwards a little bit, BE CAREFUL, with the floor shifter in neutral the truck will roll, regardless if the shifter on the steering column is in Park, use caution, make sure there is no one around your truck and you are inside of it and out of the path of doors and tires,

This past weekend I was driving my 2003 Chevy Avalanche Z71 and it hesitated shifting into gear. when it did, the shifter was almost to the floor. It has a lot of free play and won't shift into P-R-D-3-2-1 with ease. Is there a solution & diagrams on how to fix this issue?
