Slams into 2nd Gear

I just bought a 1998 Pathfinder. It accelerates fine through 1st gear, but when it goes into 2nd gear it SLAMS in. All the other gears shift no problem. Anyone have any suggestions on what it could be and how to go about fixing it?

I have a '97 with 140,000 miles on it and I have owned it for six years and within the past year it has been shifting rough as well

I ended up bringing mine down to the nissan dealership and they had discovered that the throttle positioning sensor had not been put on properly. So they wound the coil and now there is no problem. Also a fuse had been blown from the incorrect placement of the sensor , so we replaced that!

This is a very common issue with Pathfinders and in most cases smooths out after the vehicle is driven for about 5-10 minutes. Nothing to worry about. These things are tanks.

My 98 GMC Jimmy accelerates really slowly but once past 40km/h it takes off fine and handles dropping gears going up hills fine. What would it be? Would it be my torque converter?

Sounds like theres no 1st gear. Have you put the shifter in 1 and seen if it went, if so try 2-3 if it still accelerates slowly its probally stuck in 1st or 2nd gear, when it goes in to the 3 rd gear it will accelerate normally, also in 4th (OverDrive)

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan will not shif into 2nd

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

Transmission overhauled, however, band overadjusted

Bands are not adjustable. Why do you think it's a band issue? The band only comes on during manual second gear, not second gear while in drive. It sounds like a check ball was inadvertently left out of the valve body during reassembly.

Car slams in and out of gear between 45-65m.p.h., Starts ruogh..

The switch that tells the computer what gear the car is in is bad. It's located on top of trans and can be replaced fairly easy. If it is white or gray it has been revised to black. Believe it is called range selector switch. About 80.00 at Ford dealer.

Transmission shifting funny.

sounds like either your transmission is having problems with the valves...might want to have that looked at before your transmission dies completely......also have them check vacuum lines as i believe that car uses vacuum pressure to shift.
