2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN STUCK IN 2ND/3RD, NO SPEEDOMETER...
2002 Dodge Grand Caravan was fine, then engine light came on, no speedometer, lights around park/reverse, etc. illuminated. Turned key 3 x's-codes P0500 & P1698. Replaced both Vehicle Input Speed Sensor and Output Speed Sensor. Codes disappeared, but still no speedometer & still won't shift. WHERE DO WE FIND THE TCM? Is the TCM separate from the OBD (brain?). What are our options? Ran a diagnostic tool - a buddy has one. Wouldn't read the tranny. He says it has to be the tranny because the motor is fine! HELP!

Hello, Just by my experience with my 91 dodge grand caravan, I would start checking 3 things. First, did you replace spark plug wires to the correct location(Plugs 1, 3 and 5 on the back, Plugs 2, 4 and 6 on the front,That's all starting from the Passenger's side.) 2nd,do your dash lights and electronics turn on when it turns over? If not, try jumping it and 3rd if engine finally runs after that and then shuts off, then your alternator will be next to check however if engine dosen't start running from trying to jump it then the problem is more than likely your alternator. Though make sure you have plugged in all plugins that you might of unplugged like the one that plugs into your DIS coil pack and all vacuum hoses are connecting. Hope this helps and good luck!
you may have to take a magnet and put it over the speedometer needle and move the needle back to zero, this some times happens when a battery is connected as the voltage surge causes the needle to bounce some times to far and its not able to return to zero.you may need to have the system checked for proper charging, the voltage could be borderline causing the light to come on.you can try disconnecting the battery as it may reset the light.
If the engine light is on that means there is something wrong. Turn the key foward and back 3 times fast without starting the engine, after the 3rd time look at the odometer it will go blank and then it will give you some codes that start with "P" example:"P320" once you get those codes come back or google them and you'll find out what's going on. Good Luck.
When the trans. sticks itself in 2nd gear and stays there is because it's detecting a trans. problem and puts itself in "limp in" mode. When it happens again, to somewhere to have a scan done on the trans. so you can find out which sensor on the trans. is acting up.
