The fuel filter is located on the fuel feed pipe, between the fuel pump and the fuel injectors. It will be a Metallic tube like item about 4 inches long inline with your fuel supply (feed) line. If you can lift vehicle or get underneath it, then find your gas tank, find the line coming from top of your gas tank and trace it out. Filter is uaully within a few feet of the gas tank.

The fuel pump is in the gas tank. The malibu does not have any fuel filters it only has a strainer on the fuel pump itself. You will have to drop the gas tank to get to the fuel pump. The Malibu Classic (8th letter of VIN is "F") with the 2.2 Ecotech 4-cylinder engine has a fuel filter between the fuel tank and the rear axle. One end of the filter has a threaded connector and the other is a typical compression style.
Regarding the antitheft system, if that is the problem I recommend that you contact an autoelectric repair shop and get them involved as they have the diagnostic tools and the wiring diagrams to get to the bottom of these complex devices. Joe
the gas cap to relieve pressure in the tank. Lift the hood and locate
the fuse panel on the driver's side. Remove the fuel pump fuse. Turn the
ignition and attempt to start the car; if it runs, allow it to stall. Turn off the ignition. Remove the negative terminal from the battery.
Locate the fuel filter beneath the car between the rear axle and the gas tank. Remove the protective plastic cover with a screwdriver.
Remove the carriage bolt securing the filter to the frame.
Detach the inlet and outlet fuel line fittings with an open-end wrench.
Fuel may spill as you turn the nuts, so have rags or a small container
Insert the new filter and secure the fuel lines and carriage bolt. Reattach the plastic cover.
Replace the fuel filter fuse, negative battery terminal and gas cap. Close the hood and turn the ignition on. Allow the car to idle for a few minutes while the new filter fills with gasoline.

you need to locate leak quickly and fix.this is a fire hazard look under hood check for gas leaks around fuel pressure regulator.and fuel lines going to fuel injectors.also go to rear of car under where gas tank located and check fuel lines around fuel tank and fuel filter for leaks.
start of at the gas tank look under neath there are some black lines running towards the engine follow it to a small gold color that ataches to the line you are following that is the filter the pump is in the gas tank you need to drop the straps at the tank to bring it down
