Question about 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

My 6.5 turbo diesel starts OK first thing in the morning but once it's been running for a while and I shut it off it has a hard time starting and sometimes drains the battery before IU get it to run. If I use Brake cleaner in the air breather it sometimes starts.

2003 chevrolet silverdo 6.61 diesel having the same problem

  • Anonymous Oct 17, 2008

Same problem with my '02 diesel 2500HD...started up okay in the morning but after the first drive and shut down it would take what seemed forever to crank over. Ended up being the fuel injector pump gone bad. lost about half its internal pressure needed to function correctly. New pump around $700.00. OUCH!

Try replacing the fuel and air filters, if it still doesn't work test your starter to make sure is working properly. if the problem persists, the fuel injector pump on the engine might need to be replaced

Toyota lucida hard to start most times. occasionaly ok. 2.2 diesel. everything seems to work as should

in cold weather diesel gels up and sometimes causes a no start issue..a cetane fuel additive helps with this issue. if temps go below 20 degrees, add a quart per tankful of cetane to the fuel to help start on cold mornings. also diesels require more amperage to crank than gas engines do..thus a stronger battery is needed..

well the question is where did the coolant go. if it didnt leak out it must have went out the pipe. As you stated, white smoke, white smoke is coolant. You definately need to get this to the shop. You cannot drive it this way or further damage will occur.

(TOYOTA SURF 1990 TURBO DIESEL) No diesel coming out of fuel pump

Fill your fuel filter all the way up and take precaution not to get any air into pump. Try this several times. Once you get air into some pumps it can be very hard to bleed it off. There should be some way to bleed. Look on pump for bleeder.

F-350 turbo-diesel hard starting

Imagine the white smoke is unburnt diesel. Anybody standing in the middle of it will be able to tell you soon enough.

Most likely culprit is that one or two of the glow plugs aren't getting hot enough. Usually just that the plugs need replacing, but worth checking first that the busbar which runs between them all is getting +12V at the appropriate stage of the process.

1990 ford diesel non turbo

it sounds like your fuel lines aren't maintaining pressure and the angle is allowing too much fuel to drain out of the lines. i have the same issue with and older f350 diesel if i let it sit a while and it doesn't get started.
