If the car sounds like it wants to fire, but then dies when you release the key, your ignition switch is bad, replace it.

Quick question: did you remember to put in a new battery? Usually, a clicking noise indicates that the battery is way down and cannot provide enough juice to fire the solenoid that fires the starting motor.

air fuel or fire . check for fuel then check fuel pressure if you have enough fuel to actually run the motor. check for fire at spark plug, should be blue,

you need three things to start a car gas /fire /and timing check the timing first then see if you are getting fire to spark plugs then pull your fuel line at motor crank motor see if gas Is present no gas replace fuel pump no fire replace coil if timing has jump replace timing belt

Motor turns over but won't fire. Had a new starter motor and batteries. It appears to be getting fuel from the pipes that connect to the injectors.


spray a small amount of starting fluid in the air intake while turning it over, if it fires, it's not getting fuel.

Cranks backfires


That could be a timing issues when it back fires
Why ,no idea,not a question you can guess at as we do here
Could also be a vacuum leak & lean fuel mix
When you say cranks the motor turns over nothing else
Cranking has nothing to do with the motor starting or running
You have a no start & back fire as I gather

you probably have a code in the pcm(computer) that should be checked out.you could have a bad crank sensor or a bad cam sensor. but it should be checked out to know what the code is.just so you know on chryslers these 2 codes could be caused by the oposite sensor.

Changed the plugs wires and cap and rotor...think I might have screwed the firing order up....no misfire just wont turn over.


the wires to the plugs should not keep the motor from cranking over. If the battery is fully charged the ignition switch should engage the starter. If you think the firing order is wrong you need to determine 1 where is top dead center (the position the motor is in when #1 cylinder is at the top of the compression stroke). 2 what direction does the rotor turn 3 what is the firing order One way to make it easy to rotate the motor is to remove the spark plugs. no compression means no resistance to the starter so the motor should turn over with the key in the start position. If it won't crank over with the plugs out then something is wrong with the starter, battery, starter relay, or ignition switch. I always start with the basics. the battery should have at least 12.5 volts. if it does check the battery terminals. even if the starter is weak you should hear a click when the key is turned to the start position. Once you get the starter to turn over the motor you can tell when the number one cylinder is at top dead center by putting a finger over the spark hole as you crank over. You will feel the compression as the cylinder comes up on the compression stroke. I have used a large socket to slowly turn the motor over and when you are near top dead center you should be able to see the degrees of advance on the timing mark. Set the motor at top dead center then see where the rotor lines up with the wires on the distributor cap. that is where number one cylinder should fire. You then follow around in the direction that the rotor turns and the wires will corispond with the firing order. I always make a mark on the number one spot on the cap with a felt pen. That way you have a fixed reference point. Take care to verify that all the wires are to the proper plugs before trying to start. Take extra care at this point and make sure your firing order and rotor rotation are correct. I would triple check this. The firing order and rotor direction are usually somewhere on the autozone repair web site

Engine just died while driving. now will not turn over. lights work.


The battery may have enough juice left over to make the lights work but not enough to turn the motor over. If the battery is discharged, you probably need a new alternator. When the alternator goes the car will run until the the battery doesn't have enough juice to fire the motor.
If the motor will turn over but just not fire, it's an electronic ignition problem.
If the battery has full power and the starter motor turns but the motor won't turn over, then you have a broken timing belt.

1984 volkswagen crank no start getting fuel and spark


You must have the plug leads in the wrong place on the distributor.
Firing order is 1-3-4-2
Remove the distributor cap. There is a tiny mark on the aluminum body where the cap sits on it. Turn the motor clockwise by hand until the rotor lines up with this mark. #1 plug lead should be in the distributor cap hole closest to the rotor in a clockwise direction.
If the motor still does not start rotate all the plug leads 180 Deg.
