Question about 1997 Pontiac Bonneville

Stalling and no power... please help

Ok I have a 1997 Bonneville 3.8 no turbo. So this car used to run like a champ. best car i ever had until one day it turned off goin up a hill. we have the tranny rebuilt just fyi two months earlier. so after tryin to fix the problem for several months we came to the idea that the power windows which are very slugish and sometimes dont move were shorting something out. we have switched the fuel pump in the tank and several other tries later still nothing. Then we cut off the tail pipe infront of the CAT and it drover 20 miles and turned off. It dont stall anymore (unless you try to use the windows) but i can sometimes mash the gass spin tire and everything but othertimes it will cough and i can only get it to go about 30 mph..... any ideas????? please help me out. Thanks in advance

I have a 99 pontiac bonneville. It had been running great. They all of a sudden it started stalling and quitting on us. We would start the car and then in just a few minutes it would stall out. We tried driving it and we went up the hill to leave our house and it stalled again. Sometimes we could drive it 3 miles before it stalled out. We put premium gas and dry gas in, but no help. We even had the fuel filter replaced, we still have the problem. We haven't been able to drive it for a month now and really need it. Any ideas?

Have you checked the charging system voltage? It sure sounds like you have a low voltage issue, even if the windows are an excessive draw it should not affect the engine, with engine at high idle and all accessories turned on including headlights check to make sure the alternator is putting out at least 13.5 Volts

Hello. It seems either your water temperature sender is malfunctioning or your ignition module is overheating.

My mass air flow sensor went out and had it replaced 3 wks ago. now it blew another one any ideas? 97 bonneville also

No the stalling is caused by something else like a dirty fuel filter of bad fuel pressure due to a worn fuel pump. With a bad O2 and MAF sensor the ECM will go a on open loop mose for those sensors causing bad performance and gasmileage. Replace the O2 sensor and try cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner and check the wire harness, look for any damages to the wires and replace if needed. As for the stalling, try replacing the fuel filter first and we can go from there. Keep me posted, be glad to help get your car running 100% and save you some money the same time.

1997 Pontiac Bonneville will not start. Has power to everything but will not start. Battery has been replaced, spark plugs have been replaced as well as the wires. Still the vehicle will not start. Bought...

If you try to start it can you see the engine turning over via watching the belt turn or is the belt barely moving or not moving? Just trying to get an idea of which solution may best fit your issue.

Being a diesel there are just too many choices. Best bet is to go get any codes read that may be stored just to begin with

Geo metro 97. Runs great for a day then wont start the next

Your timing belt is worn out. Some days it runs good because the cogs are lined up. The next time you start it, it maybe backfires just a touch, and it's out of time. Today, it's really out. Or maybe even broken.

Where the fuel filter is located

I personally have a 1995 Eclipse, same design. Fuel filter, depending on if its turbo or not, is either where steven said below your washer fluid reservoir (big plastic container) or behind driver side rear tire. Mine was under the reservoir (most hassle I've gone through to replace something, besides the belts D:) Hope that helps :).

Secondary turbo cuts out

Check that the oil and coolant lines that run to the unit are'nt blocked as is sounds as though its overheating the turbo and its bindind up. I hope this helps.
