Having a problem removing the inside door panel in order to replace the window motor I found 1 screw inside the ash tray removed it and tried to lift the panel up and off, but it seems that there is a fastener somewhere near the door handle. I can't find it and although the panel is loose it's hanging up on one spot. I thought there may be a second screw behind the courtesy light on the door handle but I can't seem to get the lens off without damaging it; please help.
Re: Having a problem removing the inside door panel in...
Look closely for any "lift up" type flap or cover on the door handle covering the screw hole as unless the door handle is not removed, the door panel will not come off. Make sure you also have removed all the push clips used to hold the door panel.

Remove the window switch by prying it forward and up with very little
pressure. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove any screws around
the circumference of the door panel if any.
Grab the door panel at the bottom and lift it up to release
the hooks on the lower part of the door. Tip the bottom of the door
panel outward a little and push up to release the top of the door panel
where it is hooked on the top ledge. Disconnect all electrical
connectors on the door panel. Remove the panel.
Reach inside the access hole to remove the electrical
connector to the window motor. Remove the bolts holding the motor to the
door. Remove the screws holding the window motor to the regulator
barrel.
Install the new motor into the barrel of the regulator. If it
does not want to line up with the splines, lower the window slowly and
the gear will turn and the motor will line up. Install the screws
holding the motor to the regulator. Bolt the motor to the door with the
bolts. Install all components in reverse order of removal.
First disconnect the battery and then remove the inside door panel. There are a handful of screws attaching it. One hides behind the door handle escutcheon and a couple more behind the pull handle ends and at the bottom of the panel. The escutcheon and the switches panel both are snapped into place and will pry out. The panel can then be removed by lifting up and then out. Unplug the accessories and door lock wires and place the panel aside. Gentle pull the plastic moisture barrier off as much as needed to access the inner door. Now you should be able to see the regulator and window and the wires leading to the regulator motor. The window is attached to the regulator by 2 rivets and plastic mounting disc thru 2 holes in the bottom few inches of the glass. By moving the window up and down, manually if needed, these rivets can be seen through access holes in the inner door panel. If the window has been worked on before these rivets will have been replaced by bolts. If not you will need to drill the rivets out using a 1/4" bit. It is best to prop the window from below so it can't drop and I like to put a towel inside the door at the bottom just in case. Then the glass can be lifted out of the door by lifting up. Sometimes you may have to angle it out and sometimes in as you lift and in some cases the rain strip on the outside of the door at the bottom of the window may need to bee removed for clearance.
That answers "How do I remove the drivers side window in order to replace the window regulator?" but you are not finished yet.
The motor is attached to the regulator by 3 star bit bolts which you can see through 3 holes in the panel toward the mid-front of the door. Remove these and reach inside the door to separate the motor from the regulator by pushing them apart. Then the motor can be removed, assuming it has been unplugged and the wires pulled from the clip inside the door. Then there are 4 rivets (2 top, 2 bottom) holding the regulator to the inner door panel. As before 'If the window has been worked on before these rivets will have been
replaced by bolts. If not you will need to drill the rivets out using a
1/4" bit.' Then the regulator can be tilted and brought out through the large opening toward the rear of the door. Installation is the reverse of removal with these notes: The six rivets will need to be replaced by six 1" long 1/4" bolts with lock washers and nuts. The lining up of the motor and the regulator cable winding mechanism takes a little twisting but will work. As well the 3 bolts connecting them take a bit of puzzle skills to align.
One last note.... Most Ford products electric window problems are either the regulator cables have jumped track or the gear plugs in the motor have deteriorated and need replacing. If your window makes a soft 'clunk - clunk-clunk' sound when you press the button then it is the gear plugs and not necessarily the regulator. In that case leave the rgulator in place and after removing the motor take the 3 screws on the large round area that is part of the motor housing and you will find the main gear and what looks like very smelly relish which is what is left of your gear plugs. The replacements are available at most parts stores for around $7. The motors themselves seldom go bad but with the labor involved (takes me about one hour per window) most shops charge $200 per window because they buy their regulators with new motors and gear plugs installed so they don't fix one thing just to have the customer return in 2 months with a different problem with the same window, the customer doesn't understand that and would want them to fix it free. I would suggest that if you change the regulator, go ahead and and spend the 87 or 8 bucks and replace the gear plugs while you have it apart. My first one took me about 3 1/2 hours as I was trying to learn and be careful, but like I said I do them in an hour or so all the time now.
Almost takes longer to explain than to do it! Hehehe, good luck!
Hi
You have to take out the ash tray, and remove those two screws, then pop out the center dash trim. Careful, though, you have to take out a lot of the wiring inside of your center dash trim in order to pull it out for enough room to move the radio in and out. OR more elaborately try the following:-
1. Remove the panel under the steering wheel. There should be four bolts - the two at the top are covered with plastic caps. When you have removed the panel, take off the two climate control cables that run to the air controls on the dashboard. They should be secured with clips which need to come off, and the wire centre is wound around a small control knob which should have a push in clip so the wire can slip off.
2. Make the glove box drop down by removing the two plastic clips at the back of the inside of the glove box. These clips are the glove-box buffer stops and should spring off and can be pulled through the clip-opening. Behind the glove-box is another wire to un-clip, but this one slips straight off the metal control actuator.
3. Remove the ash-tray by pressing the spring loaded metal part down and take the two screws out at the back of the ash-tray. You should now be able to unclip the central dashboard. Use a screwdriver to lever it away gently, and watch for the small metal clips that drop out as you do so. As you pull it away the cables you unclipped will come away from their place and come out with the dash unit.
4. After pulling the dash-board out a few inches you should be able to see the seating screws for the radio. Take all the screws out and pull the radio forward. By unclipping the cables at the top of the unit you will find you have enough play to pull the driver's side right forward and jigger the head unit out of the gap on one side of the unit.
