Question about BMW 525

4 Answers

I have replaced the altenator and the battery and am still waking up to a car with a drained battery. there is a power drain coming from some where and has been to three different auto mechanics who specialize in BMW's and nobody can find the answer. BMW is going to charge me 4x the real cost of the problem so this is my last hope with you.

2002 525i - replaced battery and alternator. Battery drains every FIVE DAYS like clockwork (5 times now). 12 volts the night before - dead in the AM. Unable to find source of drain.

I wake up to find a dead battery in my 525TI wagon. I've installed a new battery and alternator only to wake up to the same problem a month later. I've notice that my security red flasher is blinking faster then normal, do you think this is an indication of a power drain?

CHANGE THE STARTER, WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THE PARTS THAT R CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY AND COULD DRAW ENOUGH CURRENT OVERTIME IS THE STARTER OR LEVELING SYSTEM. CHECK ALL COMPONENTS WITH DIRECT BATTERY CONNECTION THAT R FUSED AT 40AMPS OR GREATER. AND USE THE PROCESS OF ELIMINATION OF THE MOST USED PART. THE STARTER CAN START THE CAR BUT ALSO IT IS POSSIBLE FOR IT TO DRAW CURRENT ONCE THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. USE A DIGITAL VOLT METER ON THE BATTERY TO MEASURE HOW FAST THE BATTERY VOLTAGE IS DROPING OVER TIME.

TO check the battery drain switch off the car ,sit inside the car check if any of the electric is switch on like stereo etc..or check if the alarm unit is sucking more power from the battery.
There must be something draining to much power. Some faulty wired cellphone carkits are known to do this.
Either that or the battery is damaged and also check if the attenuator is charging the battery of the car......

Good luck..

Check to be sure that your hood light is turning off when you close the hood. Seriously. (Common problem.)
Remove the bulb from the hood light to see if the problem persists. If the battery no longer drains, replace the hood light assembly.
Also, run the car for a short while, then turn the car off. Leave the car off for an hour, then feel the back of the alternator. If it is hot, the diodes are bad in the alternator.

I have bmw 528i 2000 model it gave me trouble for losing battery power after replacement with new one. some thing eat power when i dont use for couple off days.it also off my auto key lock sys term

Have you added any accessories such as an alarm, an amplifier, or a CD changer? Try disconnecting anything that has been added to see if that solves the problem.
Look over the car carefully in a dark garage to see if any lights (e.g. glove box, trunk) are staying lit when the car is turned off.
Testing this car for an electrical leak is tricky to do because you have several computers that stay turned on but hibernate a few minutes after you turn off the car. When they are all hibernating, the drain on your battery should be around 20-30 mA. If the drain is much more than 50 mA, you will have trouble with your battery draining over time. The trick is to get the battery terminal off without breaking connection so you don't wake up the computers when the power starts flowing through your meter so you can measure current flow. If the computers wake up, the drain will be over 100 mA for several minutes and you will have to wait until all the computers hibernate again.

try unhooking the power wire off the back of altenator it may charge but if a diode is stuck it will drain your battery if this is the problem the altenator will still charge but will drain your battery over night

Replaced altenator & battery wont hold a

You either have a short or a power drain. You may have a defective mercury switch in the trunk which is leaving the light on. This would drain the battery in a few hours. Also check the switch under the hood. The easy way to check this is to unscrew the bulbs & see if that solves the problem. Good luck!
