My fuel gauge has also stopped working on my 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. When I fill up the tank and restart the engine the gauge sometimes reads empty and other times it reads half full. The needle intermittently jumps from empty to full when I am driving or when I am stopped at lights.

    2006 GMC Envoy
same issue as Silverado, however, has since stopped working entirely-
Do not want to have repaired since I'm sure tank will have to be dropped, etc. resulting in $$$$$

Can't say for sure since you did not include year of your car but more than likely it's the fuel sending unit that requires replacement. Some years you can replace just the level sensor on the fuel sending unit but both repairs involve dropping the gas tank and opening to remove the fuel sending unit.

In the 2002 Silverado the fuel sending unit and the fuel pump are together as a single unit in the fuel tank. DO NOT remove the fuel tank. It is much easier to remove the eight bolts that secure the bed to the frame, lift the drivers side of the bed and place a jack stand between the frame and bed. This allows access to the top of the tank where the unit is removed. Parts cost about $250.00.

I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee I was driving it and quit running the fuel pump quit running and the gas gage stopped working

check your fuel pump relay. if not that, then it's your fuel pump. the gas gauge is in the fuel pump, so if your fuel pump stopped working, your gas gauge won't work

if the fuse blew for the fuel gauge, it would keep ALL of your gauges from working, It sounds like your fuel gauge sending unit.

Temp gage and fuel gage will stop working at the same time, then will start working at the same time.

you need to change the fuel gauge, fuel gauge goes bad so does the temp gauge, runs thru fuel gauge then to temp
