Question about 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

Open Question

MB SL500 Fuel Problem, running rough, etc.

I have a 95 SL500 w/80K miles. for about a month it has "only sometimes" run rough at stop lights, etc. after it heated up. But I recently changed the fuel filter (which is installed correctly w/ the arrow fwd) and now it runs fine and accelerates fine when it is cold and has been sitting for a while; but after it warms up, it does not get enough gas when accelerating and idles rough so that I have to put it in neutral at a light to keep it running. Also if you just keep the accelerator in a fixed position at say 1200 RPM it runs fine, and once up to speed at 30-50 mph it seems fine, but even at those speeds it balks on acceleration. Can you help me figure this out please? Thanks.

There is no need to get testy. This is a car prob not life and death. Look at it from my viewpoint. I have received 5 solutions from you experts and no 2 are the same. So maybe you are correct I don't know, but when the car ran OK before I replaced the fuel filter and runs badly now; Maybe you could help me understand that and forget about your crankshaft position sensor for the time being. Just answer all my questions with some logic. Then maybe we can arrive at a solution. Thanks.

SOURCE: MB 95 SL500 Fuel Prob, Running rough, etc.

This sounds like the throttle positioning sensor (TPS) is going out. Could also be a bad O2 sensor or partially blocked EGR valve. Start with the TPS, then got to the O2 and EGR.

More then likely you have a faulty throttle position sensor (TPS)

Truck is running rough. Changed intake gasket, brake booster, and put in new spark plugs. Truck runs good for a few miles then it runs rough again. What could this be?

Do you have a check engine light on ? Is it cold when it runs good an then not when it warms up ? You need to have a diagnostic scan tool hooked up , check engine sensor data parameters .Have a pro diagnose it before replacing parts .ECT - engine coolant temp . sensor , mass air flow sensor , O2 sensors , also check fuel trims , if you know what those are . Fuel trims are a good diagnostic tool , is the PCM adding fuel for lean condition ., low fuel pressure ,plugged fuel filter , worn fuel pump etc... Or is the PCM subtracting fuel , leaking fuel injectors , bad fuel pressure regulator . What make , model an year vehicle ?

2005 Hyundai Tucson jerking in park and when coming to a stop light. Jeep runs rough and sometimes shuts off when making hard left or right turns. Could smell exhaust gas.

you have clogged fuel injectors, take it to a dealership only! they are the only place that has the proper set up to clean them. My 89 Mustang GT had the exact same problem and ford service center cleaned them for $80 and it was 100% better never had another problem, sold the car at 276K miles and it still ran perfect with no drips or leaks, the tranny finally went out. Never use those cleaners sold at stores they do more harm than good! they will void your warranty also.

Engine runs rough intermittently on the highway

- Fuel filter for clogged.
- Check fuel pump pressure.
- Clean Mass Air Flow sensor with contact cleaner.
- Atmospheric Non Return Vent valve located near the fuel tank.
- Pull up error codes, if any.

Check engine light is on, motor runs rough, sometimes stalls

Go to Advance or Auto Zone and have them run an obd scan on it and it will pin point why your light is on and could solve your problem. This is often done for free.

Fuel injectors or Distributor Cap?

the blinking CEL light is an indication of a miss-fire, run the code retrival test to find out what cylinder is the one missing, at your miles it could be almost anything from a low compression issue to a bad distributor cap, a fuel injector could be the problem, run the test and get back to me, Kragen and other chain parts stores will test the system for codes for FREE!
