Hi There.
It could be that you have compensated for the wear on your old clutch and not noticed until you had a replacment fitted that the bite was or should be at the top, either that or the cable (if manually adjustable) just wants knocking back a turn or so.

The clutch biting point of my kia ceed is very high [clutch a year old] do i need a new clutch ?

Some clutch operating mechanisms require periodic adjustment and it is important this is carried out (if applicable) as wear must be compensated for and a clearance or a certain amount of free play must be maintained in the operating mechanism. Correct adjustment and/or proper operation of the mechanism is needed to prevent premature wear and failure of the clutch components.

The clutch centre plate (driven plate) has friction material riveted to either side of the lobes or blades radiating from the hub of the plate. Those lobes or blades are made of spring steel and have a slightly cupped shape effectively holding the two friction faces apart by a small amount. The clamping force of the clutch pressure plate will overcome the resistance of the cupped lobes as the clutch is engaged.

The biting point of a clutch with healthy cupped lobes will be quite a long way from full engagement allowing a more gradual engagement and greater control.

A clutch plate that has been badly treated resulting in overheating tends to lose the cupped design with the result the biting point moves closer to the fully engaged position. This can also apply to a cheaply made clutch and some reconditioned clutches.
A healthy clutch is capable of transmitting the full engine torque with a good "safety" margin - in other words a healthy clutch will stall the engine if the 2 second stall test is used. With a stationary car and the highest gear selected the engine revs are raised to around 3000 and as the clutch pedal is sidestepped the throttle is floored. The stall should be instant...

A high biting point can be a symptom of a failing clutch but can also be a sign the clutch is maladjusted, cheap and nasty or has been overheated...

How do you adjust the clutch on a 2000 golf se tdi 1.9

Renew the clutch cable its a auto adjust mechanism and the cable comes with a plastic tie around the middle bit so fit the cable and then and only then remove the tie ,this is a difficult job and not easy for a weekend mechanic so be warned

The clutch on my 2006 santa fe feels 'high biting point' i've only just bought it and not sure if this is the 'normal' position of the bite. can you help please

Could be about to fail. The point where the clutch "bites or grabs" is normally half way from floor to top position.

Clutch biting point very high on peugeot 206sw 1.4dhi it it about to fail

The reason for the high biting point is simple. The clutch is made of 3 main components.
The pressure plate friction plate and the release bearing.
The more times clutch is depressed the concentric spring fingers wear in 2 ways . Firstly by good old metal to metal rubbing and secondly the concentric spring fingers don't return as far as a new one causing the release bearing or csc to adjust .
When the pressure plate concentric spring gingers wear they don't sit proud and require more pedal effort to depress. .
When they loose there spring like feature they require a greater distance from the release bearing. Or it has to travel further to depress them to lift The pressure plate and fee the friction plate from the lay shaft on which it is splined onto to give you drive once released.
The further back the bearing has to travel to allow the fingers to clamp the pressure plate to the friction plate . The more the clutch has become worn and unserviceable.
Self adjustment on hydraulic clutches are a hard one to gauge as you have no idea how far the piston has moved out to compensate for this wear . With a cable you can physically see the wear and adjust .
High biting points on any car are useless. You want a biting point to be 2 to 3 inches from the top and not nearly level with the brake pedal.
Anyway it seems apparent that Peugeot and Citroen both have high to almost no point at which they bite .
I myself would modify this as an engineer.
But it seems to be normal on these cats to have absolutely no biting point worth talking about.
My sisters 2012 206 1.4 is a very high biting point and I myself would not be happy with it . It gives u no indication of a worn clutch if its self adjusting.
Alll hydraulic clutches are self adjusting. So why are Peugeot and Citroens sooo high. Its ridiculous.
A very idiotic idea and I'm taking it back with her and I'm complaining. Hopefully I should get somewhere and ill update you all

Self ADjusting Clutch Cable

Your car uses a hydraulic clutch, they are self adjusting and there is no way to adjust them provided, when the pedal engages near the top of its travel this means the clutch disk is worn out.

Clutch Adjustment

You could try bleeding the slave cylinder. But it is very difficult and may or may not work. You may want to take it to an independent shop or back to the dealer. A special tool is needed inorder to depress the slave cylinder to properly bleed the possible air out of the system. It's a less expensive thing to try before replacing the clutch assy.
