Question about Plymouth Breeze

Open Question

I have a '97 Plymouth breeze 2.0 the car has 167 thousand miles. It has a 'slow start' what i mean it that the car wants to start but it takes a minute for the engine to turn over. i have replace the ignition switch, spark plug and the starter tested. there in no battery corrosion. Any input would be helpful!

the starter is one year old.Ignition switch and spark plugs are brand new.I took a voltage reading on the battery and it was 12.4 volts. I have had the car for 7 years and in that time i have not put a battery in it. but I have had to put 3 starters on the car.

The car will start for a while and in that time the tachometer and odometer will randomly quit working and at times it will start with some difficulty. Then, it will randomly cease to start at all for a few days at a time. Not knowing much of anything, my guess is some kind of short in the electrical system. Please help!

SOURCE: will not start

does it have gas?
is the battery still good? do the lights come on?
turn it to on, do not start, you should hear the fuel pump kick on, its a whirring sound coming from your trunk, have you changed the fuel filter? its a very simple job, i would say get a haynes manual first.
then check the plugs and wires.

SOURCE: 98 Chevy Suburban, engine turns over, will not start

It is possible for the vehicle to run perfectly fine before turning the engine off. I have seen it happen and it took me quite a while to figure it out. I would never have thought it was the timing chain until I tried to move the distributor and it kind of started. Thats when I figured out that it was the timing chain. If your vehicle has a distributor, mark the position that its in now and then loosen the bolt holding it down and turn the distributor either way and see if it will start or want to start better. Or you can set your TDC on cylinder #1 and check where the position of the rotor is under the cap. theses procedures are a little easier than taking the timing cover off and checking it that way.

SOURCE: How do you remove the starter from a 1999 Plymouth

On a 2.0 unhook the wires from the back of the starter then there are 2 bolts that go through the nose cone of the starter into the block, you remove those 2 bolts and the starter will fall out.

Oh yeah, you sure can! We must have a lot of them (use the search feature)! But likely not near all that the chrysler breeze is known for. I recently changed out a rack and pinion unit on a chrysler cirrus (exact same set-up as your breeze) and it was major fun on my driveway for about a week! I have to say though, that the engine and electronic controls on the cirrus has been superb and trouble free the last two years, (unlike other comments or questions I often see), and the car is approaching 220 thousand miles now, it being a '96.

I have a 97' plymouth breeze all the lights work

Could just be a bad sensor? or maybe a connection issue with cables, corrosion, etc....... Pepboys will hook up test computer and give you a free diagnois code to reasearch problem or you could take the code and give to your mechanic to save on additional costs of testing at shop.

You can hire them from a local parts store, or see your local dealer. However the dealer may charge to see the codes and then further charge to repair the fault and reset the light.
