i just bought a huyndai Xg300L .. and my driver side Cv joint is going out..
i have a little experience in changing parts, but a little advise would do be good.
i want to buy the whole shaft, and i understood that i have to take the suspension apart, and the brakes.
And my teacher told me to take a Ply bar and take the shaft off from the transaxle.
but i am still confused if there is something else i should know about..

I would not recommend doing this if you do not know what you are doing, as this requires dissassembly of the front brake and suspension system

How to change front u-joints on a 2001 ram 1500 4x4.

That model does not have U-joints, it uses constant velocity (CV) joints. It is much easier, and usually just as cost effective, to replace the half shafts (front axles that go from the differential to the wheels). Most parts stores don't even sell the CV units separately, and they are a lot more work to change.

We just bought a 2001 Ford Windstar and it makes a thinking noise in the front right, what could that be? I was told a u-joint but do they make that sound? I thought maybe a spring

Hello Ataya Mickelson,

I'm thinking... you meant ticking...??

Yes they (UNIVERSAL JOINTS) do...
but I pulled up your car on-line and IT APPEARS
you have CV-Joints
(on your "half shafts" (axle, each side)).

So do CV-joints (constant velocity joints) generally always start with a faint ticking... (if dry or hot even squeal) ... these sounds can get a LOT LOUDER ... and quite dangerous.

These joints might progress to grinding and even banging...
or simply FAIL and come completely apart (catastrophic).

Something that should NOT BE IGNORED
.

PARTS are not expensive (see below):

Thinking has always been one of my travails... problems & joys
(when done properly)... but regardless of how well or poorly I have done it... It has always been completely SILENT...
(I'm just saying).

Best regards... hope this helps!!

Leaks gearoil bad cv joints whats the problem transmission 0r other

Is it a standard tranny or auto? The CV joints usually make an awful racket before they go, the bearings and seals go out, and it will leak oil, But I don't think it would be gear oil in an automatic, I might be wrong, been a while since I messed with CV joints, don't have any cars with front drive anymore. The auto tranny fluid is red, and thin, gear oil is black and thick, like maple syrup. In case you didn't know, The CV joints are an easy fix for most shops, they used to do it for about $150, I have no idea what they charge now. Check it out. Hope this helps.

How to Change CV Joints

You cannot expect to change CV joints with only instructions this forum can provide, it is too complicated and you will need to keep referring to a manual for things like torques, etc. Get a Chilton's or Haynes manual at the local auto parts store and read up on it. Chances are you will want to have it done for you unless you have tools and skills --which if you did I don't think you would have to ask.

My car vibrate between 3200 and 3500 rpm (after market cv joints with no balance weight in center like the original???)i put 3 new cv joint and bearings ,and transmision is good????????????????????

You may have damaged the CV flange cover or debris in the joint itself causing the streering wheel to vibrate the faster you go and the more load you give it. Open the CV joint and inspect for any debris or contaminant eating the ball bearing inside.

SINCE 50,000k's I have experienced what feels like a slack cv-joint (vw aust showed little interest in solving the issue) - now at 160,000k's it's really uncomfortable on and off the throttle in traffic....

Usually when the CV axles start going out they will make a clicking noise when turning sharply in one direction or another. If you hear the noise while turning left, most likely the left axle, same for the reverse. Sorry, I don't know how many that particular vehicle has.

Tools needed for replacing 2001 Hyundai Tiburon CV joints.

CV joints are not hard if you do some research. Get a shop manual first. You will need a good jack, two jack stands. I am not that fam. with the Hyundai, but some fwd cars have med/ large bearing retaining bolts so you will need 1/2 drive socket set up to say 33 mm. You will need a whole day or 2 to do this. set aside that much time in case of some road block. You have to pull both wheels and fender wells. On some cars you will have to pull the struts or the lower arms that hold them to the body to give room to pull out the cv assy. Do one at the time on some fwd's if you pull both the ring gears can fall out of sync and thats not good. Buy the complete cv axel rebuilt if you can. Work slow, take pictures as you go, be careful.

CV Joint Axle Replacement - How to Repair or Replace

Over time the rubber boots of the CV joints can become cracked, torn, or otherwise compromised. Once moisture and dirt get into a CV joint and grease makes its way out, the CV joints days are numbered. Signs of impending failures are a click-click-clicking or metallic crackling noise while turning and accelerating or a clunking upon deceleration. While one can repack, reboot, and rebuild CV axles, it makes more sense for the average do-it-yourselfer to procure replacement units and swap out the old axles. If a boot is torn or missing, it is possible to save the joint if caught early enough, but usually the damage has already been done. Replacing or servicing the entire CV joint axle assembly may be the smarter move since replacing a boot may involve removing an axle, which may also involve removing half or all of the vehicle's brakes and suspension.
